Chapter Eleven - A Feeling too Late
It was on the fourth night that Jay broke his promise, all the other nights he called me before I went to sleep. Even when I called him that night, he didn’t pick up.
The morning after that night I fretted over this, complaining to Serenity as we got ready to go out. We were going to the a massive shopping place to buy clothes and merchandise for our parents in London.
“Seriously, why did he not call me last night?” I moaned for the tenth time, staring into the mirror as I brushed my hair.
“Just forget about it will you, you’re kind of doing my head in. I told you I don’t know.” She slipped her grey, sleeveless top over her head and used her hand to take the creases out. She also wore dark skinny jeans and black heels.
“But he promised!” I shouted, frowning at myself in the mirror. I wore a black, ruffled skirt, blue hoodie with cookie monster written in the middle and black flat shoes. I was tall enough, after all.
“Oh shame, actually I think I do know why he didn’t call you yesterday.” She pushed me out of the way in order to glance at herself in the mirror. She smiled at herself since she didn’t have to brush her hair; her hair remained neat ever since she cut her hair.
“Go on…” I prompted, irritated.
“He went to meet Jessica’s parents yesterday. Maybe he got back late or something.” She patted my back with sympathy. I let out a shaky sigh. I knew it would happen sooner or later where he forgot me. “Now come on let’s go.”
Dad drove us to the shopping centre, handed Serenity and I money before he drove off again. We were given strict instructions to call him when we finished. We spent three hours, visiting every shop available to us and bought three bags worth of clothes, jewellery and pens each. We fell in love with, mostly, everything we came across and bought everything until our last penny.
“You hungry?” I asked, as Serenity’s belly grumbled loudly.
“Yeah!” she laughed. “haha, you’re belly just made noise too. I think their talking to each other.”
“You can really be childish sometimes,” I pointed out.
“Hehe.”
“How does Subways sound?” I asked, my mouth watering with the thought of a chicken sandwich.
“Sounds brilliant.” We made our way to the second floor where we spotted Subways. We went inside and took a seat at an empty table. I left my bags by her side and went to the counter to order two chicken 6 inches. I picked the salad and the sauces for the both of us and just as I took a seat opposite Serenity my phone rang.
“Oh look, it’s Jay!” I squealed as I took out my phone and looked at the ID. Serenity snatched my phone of me before I had the chance to answer it.
“Today is about the both of us, no interruptions!” With that she turned my phone off and placed it in one of her shopping bags.
Only seconds later Serenity’s phone began ringing. She took it out and told me it was Hannah.
“Give me your phone,” I ordered, stretching my right hand out.
“Why?” She moaned, but handed it over to me anyway. I rejected the call, turned the phone off and placed it in my pocket.
