Happy reading and please let me know what you think of it. Many thanks ~ Zana

Chapter Twenty-six - A new beginning

I sobbed into my pillow through frustration and anger. He hadn't picked up nor called me back when I called him five times within the hour. I needed him and Mum was too busy to see what was going on in my life. Everything was getting too much to handle.

There was a knock at my door.

"Honey, are you OK?" Mum asked from the other side of the door before she opened it.

"I'm fine, but you look a mess!" I sniffed, taking in her hair which stuck out in all positions and her clothes full of grease and muck.

"You're not OK." She sat beside me on the bed and pulled me into a hug. "Work was just terrible though. Complaint after complaint about our cars and so I had to check the engines and everything, something's been going wrong with all of them recently," she babbled.

"Oh."

"Now, honey, what's wrong with you?" She pulled me away from her at arm's length and examined me. "My God, Tanzanite, you've lost so much weight!"

"Aren't you too busy?"

"What do you mean? Of course not! I'm never too busy for you." She looked outraged, as if I swore at her or something worse.

"It's just... lately; you haven't been paying attention to me, Mum. I miss you!" I thrust myself into her, despite the horrible stench she gave off.

"Oh honey, I'm so s --" She was interrupted by the buzz of her phone and I let her go. She checked her phone. "I'll talk to you tonight, sweetie. I have to go now, Joel's waiting outside."

She stood up before I had a chance to stop her.

"Bye Mum," I whispered into the air as she had already begun to descend down the stairs, her footsteps unusually heavy. Tears threatened to release as my vision blurred. She's done it again, ditched me for something else.

My phone rang moments later and after a quick glance at the screen, I answered.

"Dad!" My disappointment and sadness instantly evaporated.

"If that's what you want to call me, although it might be a bit awkward." This was followed by a chuckle.

"You're not Dad." I raised an eyebrow, lying down on my bed.

"That's what I was saying. You honestly don't recognise my voice? It's Alec." He sounded disappointed.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I've just had a lot on my mind lately," I replied, feeling guilty.

"Your Dad's with someone at the moment and it's important business. When he saw all those miss calls from you he told me to call you back. Taz, is everything all right?" His tone changed suddenly; the informative tone into a concerned one.

"Err, yeah..." I thought about it. "Actually no, far from all right. I need a favour."

"Name it!"

"Get Dad to pick me up today. I need to get out of here," I replied in a rush. "Tell him I'll have all my things packed."

"As in you want to move here forever?"

I took a deep breath and sat up. "Forever? I don't know. For a long while? Yes. Please just do as I say. I need to get out of here."

"Will he let you? He'll want to speak to your Mum and find out what's going on and what about school?" He was getting on my nerves.

I burst into tears. "Alec, just shut up! You don't know what I'm going through. I just need to get out of here. If you have to, then lie to him and I'll explain it to him later. He'll undertand. Got it?" I was beyond pleading. I had made my mind up on this and there was nothing that will change it.

The other end was silent a part from a few rhythmic taps.

"Alec?"

"Sorry I was thinking. How about I come collect you and I'll help you explain to your Dad when we get back?" I smiled at that.

"Brilliant. See you soon." I put the phone down before he could utter another word. I feared he'd change his mind if I stayed longer.

The doorbell rang and tripping over a few of my packed bags I ran downstairs. I opened the door.

"Woah, growing your hair?" I asked immediately. His brown hair had grown past his eyes. "Can you see through there?"

"Of course I can," he laughed. "No greeting and no hug - I feel extremely welcome."

"'C'mere, big guy." I pulled him into a tight embrace. I was finally glad I'd be getting out of this horror.

"My bags are all packed upstairs. Can you help me put them in the car?" I smiled pleasantly.

"Right down to business, ey? I was hoping to have a little chat with food and a movie," he joked, although there was a hint of disappointment in his voice.

"Plenty of time to chat in the car and at Dad's place."

"Show me the way." He bowed down.

Moments later, the three suitcases, two duffel bags and my side bag were in the car. As I was closing the boot and heading back into the house to check to see everything was OK, I perceived Hannah, Jay, Jasper and Serenity walking up the pavement.

"Forget about the house. I'm sure it's all fine. Let's just go." I ordered Alec through gritted teeth. I locked the front door and pushed him towards the car.

Through my peripheral vision I saw they had spotted me but I kept going. I got into the car and waited for Alec to do the same.

"Hey, wasn't that Jay? Your Dad showed us pictures of you two. Best friends, huh? Aren't you going to miss him?" Alec asked once he buckled up.

"I've got you to compensate. Now drive."

"Oh. I see." I assumed he realised they were the problem.

Only seconds after we drove off, I recieved a text

Leavin? Well gd riddens and dnt come back. My plan all along
