The next day Brad wasn’t at school, strange, he probably got sick or something. At 6th period with Chrisoff, he was acting strange too.
“Hey Tori, do you want to go somewhere after school?” he said.
“I … guess, why?” I said.
“No reason.”
So that afternoon I met Chrisoff at the back of the school and saw that he was leaning against a black motorcycle with a spare helmet, then he said. “Come with me if you know what good for you.”
Somehow I was walking towards his bike and got on. As I sat down he said. “Hold on to me, I go fast.”
When he started the engine I grab his waist, tightly. When we took off he broke one of the tail lights of a teacher’s car with his bike.
I know this isn’t the Chrisoff I know, the one I know had glasses on when he couldn’t see far away, always get here before school started and has his mom pick him up after school. This person was not Chrisoff.
We rode until he parked in an old ally way and said. “We’re here,” There was music playing inside the building that Chrisoff and I stood in front of. “Welcome to the Were Club, Tori.”
As we walked in the place it was filled with flashing lights and loud gothic rock music. When I looked around I saw Ackie and Snow dancing with other Goths I’ve never seen at school before.
“Why are we here?” I ask.
“To have fun, get to know people more, do whatever you want and the best part is...no grow ups!” he said.
I know somehow I needed to get out of here. When I was backing up to leave Chrisoff said. “Let’s dance.” He grabs my hand and pulled me over to the dance floor.
I had no other choice, so I danced with Chrisoff for a little while until my phone started vibrating, that can only mean one thing; mom. She is going to kill me when I get home.
When I answered the phone she was screaming through it. “Victoria Lin Jackson! Where are you young lady! When you get home you are grounded! Now get home now! And I better see you home before 7:30 tonight, do you understand me.”
“Okay-”
“Now Victoria!” my mom said cutting me off. Oh great, I better start writing my will.
So I told Chrisoff I need to go home before my mom kills me and then he said. “Sure, sorry, I didn’t see what time it was.”
“It’s okay, you didn’t do anything it’s my fault,” I said. When we headed out the door it was cold and dark, really dark.
“We better get going before your mom blows a fuse. I just checked my phone, its 7:00.”
“So let’s go then, I’m freezing my butt off here.” He smiled and handed me the spare helmet.
As we went through the city, just like magic all of the building lights came on when we passed by, it was amazing. When I was looking around I saw Chrisoff smiling at me and his deep blue eyes went back on the road again.
When we’d pulled up to my mom’s driveway, she was already standing in front of the garage door; she was pissed just by the looks of it. As I was about to go inside Chrisoff grab my arm and said, “Wait!” He looks at me and to my mother. “Mrs. Jackson it was my fault not hers, I thought it was a good idea to stay after school and chat for a while. I didn’t know what time it was until you called Tor- I mean Victoria. It is truly my fault because Victoria wasn’t home yet. I’m sorry.”
I can’t believe that Chrisoff was stinking up for me like that. Usually Chrisoff just tells the truth when something goes wrong.
So my mom sighed and said, “Okay, but if it happens again I’m calling your mother Christopher, and for you young lady, don’t do it again. And next time call me before you do anything else.”
“Okay” both Chrisoff and I said. When my mother went inside Chrisoff and I both snickered.
I was about to head inside when he pulled me back again. “I need to tell to you something but not now or later but soon. I have something for you,” he said. He reached into his pocket and showed me it.
“What is it?” I asked.
“It’s a dream catcher. There some urban legend that says dream catchers catch on fire if the person sleeping has a bad nightmare. I made it myself to give to you. I wanted to give it to you at the right moment, but I think this is. So here, I hope you love it.”
“Aww, thanks Chrisoff, it’s beautiful. I do love it.” He came forward and gave me a hug. This is new to me, Chrisoff never hugs me. When he does his hugs were always short and cold, but this one was long and warm. So warm that I thought his eyes were glowing.
“Well I see you tomorrow Tori,” he said. He got on his bike and started his engine. I walked towards the front door with my left hand on my right arm, then, “Hey don’t worry about me okay,” he said. I gave him a small smile and walked inside the door. When I was in the door way and looked back he was gone.
