That afternoon at school Snow, Ella, Brad, and I went into the Chorus room and started setting up our instruments. As we were setting up we heard the doors open and saw Chrisoff wheeling in his drum set.
He was about to set up until he saw Brad and stormed out of the room.
I set my guitar down and chased after Chrisoff.
He was outside the school’s parking lot walking away from the school.
“Chrisoff, come back!” I yelled after him.
He didn’t walk back, he was walking further away.
“Chrisoff, come back!” I repeated as I followed him. “Chrisoff! Chrisoff Lineman!”
He was still walking away and he didn’t look up when I said he last name.
“Christopher!”
He stopped in his tracks while I was catching up and turned around to face me.
I haven’t used Chrisoff’s real name since we were kids. This was the first time I said it. “What’s wrong with you?” I asked.
He looked at me with hatred in his eyes. “You didn’t tell me that…that…bloodsucker was joining!” he shouted.
“I had to make you join…you’re the best drum player I know,” I said.
“Well count me out,” he said as he crossed his arms. “I’m not joining.”
“C’mon Chrisoff we need you. If we had you we could win and play at the Snow Ball.”
He turned his head to the side.
“It has always been your dream to play in front of a live crowd and now’s your chance.”
His head was still turned.
“Do it for the band, do it for Ella."
No movement.
“…Do it for me.”
His head faced me and he grabbed my arms that were fabricated with my black long sleeve shirt, which were hanging loosely next to my black ripped shorts.
He rested his head upon mine. “Okay…but, that bloodsucker better know what he is doing.”
I held his hand in mine and we started walking back to the school. “You know that bloodsucker has a name and yes, he knows what he’s doing. Trust me,” I said.
He smiled when he heard me mentioning the “bloodsucker” to him.
*35 minutes later*
As we walked out of the Chorus room everyone said bye and headed home. When I got to my house there was a note on the door. I walked up to it and read it aloud.
‘Come to the woods at 9pm on next Thursday. See you there my sweet.’
I took the note off the door and smirked. I didn’t have to know who wrote it, it’s pretty obvious. I opened the door and walked inside to be meted by Zoe. I bend down and scratched her little head.
“Mom, I’m home!” I yelled. “Are you here?!”
There was a long pause for a moment until I heard water running upstairs as I walked over to the staircase. “I’m in the shower, dear,” I heard my mom’s voice say. “If you’re hungry there’s some leftover tuna casserole in the fridge.”
“That’s okay,” I said. “I’ll just order pizza.” (I just hate tuna casserole…Ew)
“Are you having any friends over?”
