The next day all was fine. No one got yelled at, nobody got picked on, and it was silence until Sammy (the crazy-annoying-girl) skipped up to me and said.
“Hey Victoria –”
“Tori,” I cut her off.
“Okay.....Tori, are you going to the Snow Ball in December?” she said.
“No, why should I go?” I asked.
“Because, you might have a chance to be the Snow Queen, and the Snow King and Queen wins a free trip to the Cheesecake Factory for the day.”
“Oh really, what makes you think I want to be the Snow Queen first of all?”
“I don’t know, I just thought you might be a…really good Snow…Queen, that’s all.”
“Whatever, I’m not going to the ball, okay.”
“Okay, be that way…” she gave me a flyer and I started to walk away to go to Music class until I heard the word ‘Freak’ escaped from her mouth. I turned around and Sammy was already skipping away.
I wanted to say something to her but she was gone. I crumpled the flyer and threw it to a nearby trash can (the paper didn’t make it in). I went up to the trash can and picked up the paper, just then I saw Sammy talking to Brad. How dare she talk to him? I thought. Right as I was about to walk over there and curse at her, a familiar voice said.
“Hey Victoria, over there it’s me!” I would know that voice from anywhere. I turned around and smiled. It was Ella, my best guitar playing friend. “Victoria, it’s me, Ella, from kindergarten, I once got gum in your hair!” Oh I wish she didn’t have said that. I thought.
In kindergarten we were chewing gum and playing with it until she got it stuck on her hand. She didn’t say anything while she was still braiding my hair. Ugh. I hate her so much for doing that.
“Victoria,” she said waving her hand around. I got up, ran to her, and hugged her.
“Ella it’s you, I miss you so much,” I said.
“I miss you too,” she said, letting go of me.
“What are you doing here? Didn’t you move to California?”
“Not anymore, my dad got a better job here. He works with young adults that write stories and publish them into books.”
“Wow Ella that’s amazing, now you can go to school here.”
“I already do."
“Really, do you know where you’re going?”
“Yeah…um…1st period Science, 2nd period Math, 3rd period Chorus, 4th period Art, Lunch at 12:30, 5th period Social Studies, Pride time, and 7th period German. I think.”
“No way you’re in my Chorus and German class.”
“Yay, were in the same classes,” she said animatedly.
“Okay, okay let’s go to German class, Mr. Philips doesn’t like students being late for class,” I said.
We walked and talked on the way until I looked back and saw Brad and Sammy smiling and laughing. And then Brad hugged Sammy, I was shocked. If he wants to be her boyfriend then go right ahead. When school was over Brad walked up to me and kissed my cheek. I wanted to kiss him back but, I was still mad at him. I pulled away and huffed.
“What’s wrong babe, my kisses always cheers you up,” Brad said reaching his hand towards me.
“Well not anymore. I know what you did today at school,” I said.
“What, I sneaked into the teacher’s lounge and stole Mr. Luster’s cream pie and got in trouble with him, if that’s it I’m sorry.”
“Wait, you’re the one who stole Mr. Luster’s cream pie. No wonder I heard rumors about that – hold up. That’s not what I’m talking about that, I’m talking about you and Sammy hugging at your locker.”
“I hugged her because she was asking me about the Snow Ball. I was going to ask you to it, I was happy that Sammy reminded me so I hugged her.”
“Oh…I guess I was wrong then, I’m sorry. Can you forgive me?”
“Does this answer your question?” He grabbed my arms, leaned me towards him, and kissed me with his soft smooth lips. A bunch of people were staring at us like they have never seen two people kiss before but, I didn’t care. He was right I thought. His kisses always cheer me up.
