Alice's P.O.V.

We walked toward the dark alley and I felt my breath catch in my throat. The smell of Cullen's blood was so strong that I nearly gagged. James looked at me with worry and rubbed my back gently.
"You can stay in the car if you want?" I shook my head and felt my vision blur. James swiped his thumb across my cheek, collecting the tear that had begun to fall. Mel cleared her throat and James jerked his hand away. Mel reached down and picked up a note that was lying on the pavement. She opened it and began to read aloud.
"Hunters, I know you have found my note and I know you are searching for this boy. You have a vampire in your care that I want dead. If she is killed then I will return the boy to you. Bring her to me and kill her before me and you will be given the boy. I am at a secluded cottage in Bloodhound Forest. Have the vampire follow the smell of her precious friend's blood and you will find me. Until then, Lord Vulkinn." Her voice cracked as she finished and James walked over to comfort her. It must have been hard, watching as Cullen was taken and not being able to stop it. The hunters' job was to save lives and even though she didn't know him, she still felt responsible for not being able to save him. I took the note from her and smelled Cullen's blood on the paper. Dropping the wretched thing I sniffed the air.
"Let's go." I began to walk down the alley and toward Bloodhound Forest. James grabbed my arm and turned me to look at him. He looked in my eyes and sighed. Sliding his hand down, he laced his fingers with mine. I smiled up at him and jerked my head around to the sound of gagging. Mel was standing to the side fake heaving and smiling. She was trying to lighten the mood, I could tell because her smile didn't reach her eyes and the pretty green orbs were filled with sadness and glistening from unshed tears. James looked at me once more before we disappeared into the shadows that would lead to my death.
