I sighed as I looked at the file lying on my desk. The picture was pinned to the top and I felt my heart race as I looked at the pretty girl. Her hair was dark and straight. It surrounded her pale face and brightened her eyes. Her deep brown eyes were happy and crinkled from laughter. Beside her was a boy with dark brown hair. It was shaved on the sides and had a loose "mohawk" which hung slightly in his blue eyes. He wore a huge grin and his arm was around the girl's shoulder. I shook my head and flipped over the picture. I began to read the file, I leaned my head on my hand and licked my lips.

Name : Alice Amerson
Age : 21
History : father died in car crash, mom abused alcohol and now in rehab, Alice was placed in orphanage, attacked at age 17, healed and released from orphanage at age 18, moved into 54 west main street, Maine at age 18 with best friend Cullen Emerson, quiet with no criminal record since moving in.

I shook my head. I couldn't believe it. The girl that had been stuck in my head the past four days is the thing I was trained to hunt. I shook my head again, pushed my chair back and stood. My chair mad a loud crash as it fell over. My door opened and Mel walked in. She looked at me with understanding. She was the only one who knew my feelings for Alice. I couldn't hide anything from Mel. She knew me too well. We grew up together and she had been my best friend since. Our fathers were killed during a hunt and my mom died of cancer. Mel's mom took me in and soon after was killed by an unknown creature. Mel has been hunting for the monster since.
"Why are you throwing your chair? It didn't do anything to you." Mel grinned and picked up my chair. She looked at my desk and grabbed the picture I had turned over. She looked sadly at the girl and boy. She glanced back up at me with sympathy in her eyes. I turned away and fought the anger and sadness trying to fill my heart. Mel walked over and placed her hand on my shoulder.
"We need to hear her out. Linkoln might be wrong about her being a vampire." I nodded and hugged her. She was a wonderful friend and I don't know what I would do without her.
"Thank you." I smiled as I pulled away.
"Oh!," Her face looked as if a light bulb had appeared over her head, "I almost forgot. Boss wants to see you in his office." She winked at me and walked out. I smiled and chuckled at her childishness. Mel popped her head back in.
"If he asks... I didn't do it." She grinned and wiggled her fingers in a girlish goodbye. I sighed and headed for Jeremy Walker's office. Too bad Mel didn't wish me luck... I'm gonna need it.
