I woke up settled against something hard.

Something was drawing circles against my skin and it tickled a little but I tolerated it.

There was a heartbeat thumping away through my sleepy mist.

Thump-a-thump-a-thump…

One after the other in steady, unwavering beats. It was an interesting symphony to listen to. In fact, I could listen to it all the days of my life.

I cracked one eye open, to find Liam staring up at the ceiling, with a very sated smirk on his face. I grinned at that one; it was one of many expressions I’d have to add to my already growing collection.

“Morning,” he said softly, and I heard the whistle in the curtains.

“Good morning,” I replied, feeling content.

It was strange, lying in the bed beside Liam, but it couldn’t have felt more right.

We were silent for a few more moments, quiet and comfortable with each other in the wake of the most spectacular night we’d had together yet. I wondered faintly why we hadn’t done it sooner, and gotten it over with. Especially now we knew there was so much magic held in it.

I never dreamed it would be as perfect and special as it was, even though the circumstances under which it had been fulfilled were most definitely not.

“Thank you,” I murmured contently.

“You’re welcome.” He said with a smile in his voice. “I only had to give in to you, and you knew it.”

I blushed and buried my face in his bare chest, my curls spreading out across his pale skin. He tickled me softly, and followed me around the bed, tickling me until my laughter filled the room. Then he kissed me languidly on the lips, and I savored the moment.

“What does the lady want for breakfast?” Liam asked.

“You,” I grinned.

“I think you’ve had enough of me.” He admonished playfully, grinning and waggling his eyebrows suggestively; I giggled and I rolled my eyes. “Any more and you’ll be spoiled.”

“I have not,” I murmured, kissing him quickly.

He leaned away from me with a groan. “I thought I already warned you that saying things like that are only going to get you in trouble.”

I grinned, watching the lust fill his eyes as I stared back at him. That was, until he went rigid.

“I hear someone.” He murmured.

My eyes widened and I dove under the comforter, knowing the effort was futile, but trying anyway. Liam locked his arm around my body, refusing to let me go.

“We can be caught, Misha,” he said softly. “Even if you weren’t found, your scent is still a part of me. Whoever it is will know you’re here, whether or not they see you. Your scent on me is all they need to know we’re Mated. Besides, there’s no going back now.”

I gulped and buried my head in his shoulder. His arms wrapped around me and together we waited.

The footsteps were light, and they stopped at the door.

Two hard knocks came on the wood.

“Liam?” a muffled woman’s voice came from behind the door.

“Kira?” Liam replied, the deep timbre of his voice sending vibrations through my body.

“Can I come in?” she asked politely.
