It was all set, I got a month off from work and I was going to visit my dear friend Preston. It had been a long time since I had last seen them, by now their oldest kids were ten. I still remember when they were babies, cutest twins I had ever seen. It was funny that they looked like Preston’s biological kids instead of Robert’s.
The only thing that tied them to Robert were the hazel eyes and wavy hair, but it was the same color as Preston. Preston really did look like Chloe, the twins mother. I used to joke with him that maybe she was his real twin sister and were separated at birth, the resemble was just uncanny.
Joaquin didn’t want me to go, he thought I should wait a while longer before going over there. He thought I should stay with family right now, but he just didn’t get that Preston and Robert were more than just friends. They too were family to me, even their six kids saw me as their uncle.
Grant said he just doesn’t want me to leave, because then he was going to have to start cooking again. I didn’t mind doing the cooking, it helped keep my mind off things I don’t want think about.
“So you’re really going to go?” Joaquin asked as he sat on the bed next to my suitcase. I had been staying with them for two weeks since my break up with Jaxon. They all helped me a lot while I have been here.
“Yes, but it’s only a month. I’ll be back before you know it and I think this is what I need. Just being here and Jaxon just always bothering me is starting to wear me down.” He smiled sadly at me, he knew how annoying Jaxon was being. There was even a time he wanted to beat the crap out of him, but Grant stopped him.
“Well you have to do what you have to do, but we will all miss you while you’re gone.” He placed his head on my shoulder, “You can wait another week or put if off until you’re really over Jaxon.”
“Sitting around here waiting and pretend like the last five years didn’t happen, isn’t going to help me. I need to get out of here and away from what only reminds me of what I had with him. Who knows I might find mister right in New York.” Joaquin sighed.
“You got a point there, I'm really going to miss you.”
“Now are you going to miss me or just my home cook meals?” he chuckled as he bumped his shoulder into mine. “You know I don’t tell you enough, thank you Joaquin. You, Grant and the kids just have made it a little better for me. I’m truly grateful for all of you to be in my life.”
“As we are grateful to have you around here more now.”
“Thank you,” I hugged him and he held me tight.
“So are you all packed and ready to go?”
“Yeah,” I looked at the three bags I had packed. I was starting to wonder if it was too much to take, but then again I was going to be gone a whole month.
