35. DREAMING OF YOU (Mature)

Sunday Morning

Aiden knew that he was dreaming. He knew that none of what he currently saw, heard, and felt was real; however, none of that brought him any comfort as his chest tightened and anxiety rose.

It was such a distressing feeling being locked in a dream state and unable to gather the strength to wake oneself up. He was frightened, confused, and above all, wondered where and if Julian was okay.

This isn't real, Aiden told himself. None of this is real. I'm just dreaming...

Aiden's surroundings were cold, murky, and almost pitch black. The only light around was that of the moon and stars in the sky.

He was able to make out that he was standing in the center of what looked like an old, decrepit colosseum; one that's usually shown in movies where gladiators fought themselves to the death while a crowd cheered on as if the violent performance wasn't bloody, gory, or completely inhumane.

As Aiden looked around, trembling in fear, his heart steadily pounded in his chest. Tall dark figures sat in the stands of the Colosseum. There were hundreds of them, maybe more, but he couldn't really tell.

If they were actual human beings, something that his mind made up, or something not of this world, he couldn't tell that either.

Funnily enough, that's not what bothered him the most about this dream, or better yet, a nightmare. It was the shocking scene suddenly laid out before him is what caused his heart to drop.

Standing on a hanging post, like those shown in old western films, just a few feet before him were two bodies - one male and one female.

They both had black bags over their heads, a noose around their neck with their hands and feet bound by a thick rope. Neither of them struggled to be free and Aiden couldn't tell if they were alive or already dead.

But one thing that he could make out was that the man was Julian McAndrew.

Aiden could pick him out in a room full of lookalikes if he were ever put in such a position. He knew Julian's body stance; how broad his shoulders were, how firm his thighs looked whenever he wore tight jeans.

Aiden's been studying Julian ever since he walked into his life, so he knew exactly who it was that was standing before him.

And when the black bags magically flew off the man and woman's head, revealing their identities as Julian and Clarissa, Aiden gasped in horror and confusion. He tried to speak but nothing came out.

He tried to move forward, to help Julian down, but his body wouldn't budge as if an invisible force had him glued to the spot he'd been standing in.

Unexpectedly, he heard a voice... It was a menacing and thunderous noise as if the person – creature, or supernatural being – were talking over a loudspeaker.
