Chapter 1

"Shayla Diggory! Get downstairs before your waffles become soggy!"

"Coming mum!" I yelled as I threw on my new Hogwarts robes I had just bought from Madam Malkin's, being careful not to snag any of the fabric. As I dressed, I thought about what house crest would be taking the place of the empty spot on my top left side of my robes. I was really open to any of them.

I quickly snapped back into reality when my dad screamed, "We are leaving for King's Cross Station in 10 minutes!" I ran downstairs, stepping on every other step. As, I got to the bottom I bumped into my brother.

"Watch where you're going Shayla!" he teased. "You'd better eat and grab your trunk and Rustle!"

Rustle was a pet owl I bought at Diagon Alley. I decided on his name when I saw him trying to get out of his cage. He didn't squawk or hoot every five seconds like the other owls did. He would give an occasional coo or hoot, but all I could really hear was the rustling of his wings. He was a Great Horned owl with the biggest yellow eyes you've ever seen. He had been bringing me dead mice ever since I got him and even though it's sometimes annoying, I think it's cute that he tries to please me.

I quickly sat down and shoveled bits of waffle into my mouth while checking to make sure I had everything I needed in my trunk.

"One last thing," I thought to myself. I ran upstairs after finishing the last bites. I looked inside my jewelry box and found the hidden compartment my mother enchanted to only let me inside. I reached inside and pulled out my time-turner I had inherited from my grandmother. It brought up some heavy emotion. I loved my grandma dearly. On the side, it had an engraving with the words "Time is valuable Shayla. Use this well". I hadn't read it until a year after she passed. It just reminded me if her. I pushed the thought aside and strung it around my neck, but concealed it under my robes so no one would see it.

"Time to leave!" my dad called.

"Coming!" I yelled as I grabbed my trunk and Rustle's cage and met my family at the front door. My mother stood there with a saddened face.

"Oh Cedric and Shayla! I'm gonna miss you too so much! Promise to stay out of trouble and have fun! And Cedric, show your little sister around. Just because you are a fourth year doesn't give you an excuse to ignore her!" my mum exclaimed.

"I know Mum," Cedric stated flatly "Don't worry we will be fine."

"Ya Mum , totally," I said.

"Alright if you say so," she replied.

"Deborah, we have to leave!," my father yelled impatiently.

"Okay okay!" Mum exclaimed.

"Bye Mum," Cedric and I said in unison.

"Have a great year!" she shouted as we walked out the door.

Cedric and I threw our trunks in the trunk of the car and rested our owl cages on our laps on the way to King's Cross Station. I looked over and saw that Cedric didn't have his Hufflepuff Robes on.

"Cedric why aren't you wearing your robes?" I asked.

"Wow Shayla. We don't wear Robes until we get to Hogwarts," he said.

I blushed. "Whoops I had no idea," I said clumsily.

"It's alright honey, I will fix it," my dad chimed in. He waved his wand and my robes switched to normal clothes and the robes went right into my trunk.

"Thanks a million," I exclaimed gratefully.

The ride took about fifteen minutes, but each of those minutes was filled with excitement. Hogwarts was gonna be sooo fun. I couldn't wait to see what house I was going to be sorted into. I would've liked being in a house with my brother, but any of the other houses were great too.

"Here we are, King's Cross," my dad said. He helped us with our trunks and we rolled them up to Platform Nine.

"Okay Shay. Now all you've got to do is run right through that brick wall right there and we will get to Platform Nine-and-Three-Quarters," Cedric stated calmly. "Don't mess up!"

"I will be right behind you," my dad said. "Cedric will go first." Cedric grabbed his trunk and his owl's cage and ran through the barrier, disappearing on contact. He made it look so easy.

"Your turn now," my dad coaxed. I grabbed my trunk and Rustle's cage and stood fifteen feet away from the wall. I quickly ran towards the barrier, bracing myself but nothing came. I opened my eyes and I looked around. I made it! I saw the scarlet Hogwarts express and Cedric. Then, I turned around just as my dad made his way through the barrier.

"Now you two have a great time at Hogwarts okay?"

"We will," I said.

"Ya," Cedric said, annoyed.

"Bye guys!" my dad yelled as Cedric and I made our way onto the train.

"You can sit with me and my friends if you want," Cedric offered.

"Okay, sounds good," I replied as I followed his steps along the aisle. We passed many peculiar compartments. One with a red haired girl and a bushy haired girl, who looked really worried Then, we passed a compartment with a blonde haired boy with cold grey eyes who was sitting with one lanky boy and one plump one. He stopped me without Cedric knowing.

"Hey do you want to sit with me?" he asked.

"I'd love to," I said "Except my brother wanted me to sit with him"

"Oh I see," he said disappointedly. "The name's Draco Malfoy if you ever want to talk."

"My name's Shayla Diggory. Maybe I'll see you around," I said hopefully.

"Ya maybe," he said. With that I walked away to catch up with Cedric. He had slipped into a compartment two away from Draco's.

"Where were you?" he asked.

"I was just talking to a friend," I said.

"Oh alright," he stated. "I'd like you to meet Cho, Fred, and George. They are all a year younger than me but the best ever!"

"Hi guys, I'm Shayla" I said to a very pretty Asian girl with sleek black hair and two red headed twin boys who had to be related to the red headed girl I saw earlier.

"Hi Shayla!" the twins said at the same time. "We're Fred and George Weasley! Delighted to meet you!"

"Hey Shayla, I'm Cho Chang," the asian girl said. "I hope you have a great year at Hogwarts."

"Thanks everyone," I said.

"Anyone hungry for some chocolate frogs?" Cedric asked.

"Of course!" we replied. So, Cedric got up and bought chocolate frogs from the cart giving us each two.

We happily munched on our chocolate frogs and chatted the entire way to Hogwarts. Right before finally pulling into the stop, we all changed into our robes. I felt the train stop which meant were at Hogwarts.

"First years go across the lake Shayla. Cho, Fred, George and I won't be accompanying you. Your belongings will be in the dormitory in the common room of the house you are sorted in. Good luck," Cedric said, with a smile.

"Ok and thanks," I said, trying to sound confident even though I was kinda nervous. We walked off the train and the first years were directed to walk to a big burly man who would help us across the lake. I sighed and got ready to go.
