Chapter 2
"First years! Over here. My names Hagrid and I'm the school groundskeeper. I will be helping you cross the lake. Two ter a boat please!"
I found an empty boat and sat in it. I saw the red-headed girl who was sitting with the bushy-haired girl earlier hovering over it.
"You can sit here. I don't bite," I said with a laugh.
"Thanks," she replied.
"Don't worry about it," I said "I'm Shayla Diggory."
"I'm Ginny Weasley," she said.
"So you're related to Fred and George?" I asked. "They are hilarious!"
"Hahaha, yep they are my dung-headed brothers along with my brothers Charlie, Bill, Percy, and Ron. Fred, George,Ron, and Percy are the only ones in school right now. The others already graduated." she said.
"Oh I see," I said. "Is Ron or Percy close to our age?"
"Ron is a year older than us," she stated.
"Who was the bushy haired girl you were sitting with?" I asked.
"Hermione Granger," she replied.
"Oh," I said.
"Time to push off shore!" yelled Hagrid. We pushed our boat off the shore and started rowing with only a lantern for light.
"I can't wait to be sorted!" I said excitedly.
"I hope I get Gryffindor," Ginny said. "That's where ALL my siblings have been in."
"I don't really care where I get into, but my brother is in Hufflepuff," I said.
"Oh well you better hope you don't get Slytherin!" she exclaimed.
"Why?" I asked.
"Mostly bad, rotten wizards and witches come from there," she said. "And that is the house with the most dark wizards."
"Oh I never knew that," I said. I never thought about Dark Wizardry coming from only one house. What if I got Slytherin? Would I turn into a bad person?
"Ya," she replied. "Maybe we will get in the same house!"
"Ya maybe we will," I replied. But, I thought back to seeing that Draco boy. He had the Slytherin crest on his robes, but he seemed like a nice guy. Maybe he was different.
"We're almost there," Ginny said. We pulled the oars inside the boat as we hit shore. Then we made a single file line and walked to the main doors of Hogwarts. A tall slender, elderly woman wearing emerald robes greeted us.
"Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! I am Professor McGonagall, head of Gryffindor and transfiguration teacher," she exclaimed. "We are going to proceed to the Great Hall in which the sorting hat will sit on top of your head and tell you what house you will be a part of. Good luck students!"
We walked into the castle. It was magnificent and beautiful. The whole castle was made of stone and there were paintings everywhere with golden frames. And there were staircases that appeared to be moving! I was swept away by the beauty of Hogwarts until I heard the Great Hall doors open. There was the largest chatter coming from the four tables of the houses Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.
We walked through the central aisle to the head of the room where there was a three legged stool and a very tattered looking hat, which I assumed was the sorting hat. Professor McGonagall announced that the sorting would commence now, in alphabetical order according to last name, which meant I was one of the first. I saw two people get into Hufflepuff, one into ravenclaw, six into gryffindor, and three into Slytherin. Finally, it was my turn.
