Chapter 6
I awoke in the hospital wing with a terrible headache. It felt like a million needles were trying to impale my brain. I heard two people arguing. They faced the other way so I couldn't see their faces. But I could see that one was blonde and the other was chestnut-haired. "If I find you hanging out with her again, I will personally cut your throat Malfoy!" the chestnut-haired one yelled. It had to be Cedric. That was definitely his voice. I tried to say something, but my throat was dry and no words came out.
"I was trying to protect her!" Draco yelled. "Potter was firing spells at us and I tried to block the one he sent at her!"
"Well you did a damn good job!" Cedric yelled.
"You don't think I care that she's hurt, do you? Well news flash, she's one of my friends!" Draco screamed. That made me feel good. I had only known him for a day and we were good friends already.
"Why would she be friends with you?" Cedric questioned. "She's only holding on to you because she doesn't have many friends right now. But, when she gets more friends, she will kick you to the back of her friend's list! She told me so herself!"
"Cedric why are you lying?!" I thought. Draco looked sort of hurt. He looked at Cedric and said, "This isn't over Diggory" and left the hospital wing. Suddenly, Cedric looked over at me and saw that my eyes were open.
"Sorry you had to hear that," he said. "But I told you to stay away from him and this is what happens. You didn't listen to me Shayla. I tried to warn you, but you didn't listen."
This time I tried to talk and words came out. "It wasn't his fault this happened, Harry and Draco were firing spells at each other and Ron went to fire a spell and I stupified him. I guess that made Harry angry because then he fired a spell at me. And Draco did really try to stop it, but Harry was too quick."
"If you hadn't been hanging out with Malfoy, you wouldn't be in this hospital bed now with a concussion," he replied. "I thought you understood when I told you not to hang out with him yesterday." So I had been in the hospital all night. And by the looks of it, it was afternoon now. I had been out for a day.
"I'm sorry Cedric. I won't do it again," I lied. It was hard to lie to him. He was like a rolemodel to me, but I had to. Draco was starting to grow on me and I didn't want to lose our friendship, even if it was only our second day of being friends.
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
"Not good," I said. This was an understatement. My head felt like it was gonna explode.
"Well rest and get better," he said.
"I'll try," I replied.
"Good," he said. "I have to go to class now, but Madam Pomfrey has requested you to stay an extra night, for good measure."
"Alright," I said.
"Bye Shayla," he said.
"See ya later," I replied.
He then walked over to the door, gave a little wave, and was gone. Then, I saw a short, round lady, who I guess was Madam Pomfrey. She walked over to the left side of my bed.
"How are you feeling dear?" she asked.
"Terrible," I said glumly.
"That concussion of yours is pretty severe. Whatever spell was sent at you must've sent you flying back and hitting your head on a wall," she said. "Thanks to magic, your concussion will be gone tomorrow morning."
"I really love magic," I said.
"Yes, it's a powerful thing," she said. She held out a tiny cup of purple liquid that was bubbling. "Here, drink this," she said, extending the cup out to me. "It will ease the pain until the spell I casted fully mends your head."
"Ok," I said. I took the little cup and poured the liquid down my throat. It tasted really nasty, like rotten milk mixed with peanut butter. And it was really thick. It almost came right back up, but I managed to stop it.
Madam Pomfrey must've seen me almost vomit because she said "Oh I'm so sorry dear, I forgot to tell you about the awful taste."
"Ya it would've been nice if you told me," I replied. "But it's alright."
"Ok," she said. "I want you to rest now."Everything will be better in the morning,".
"Kay," I said as I laid down. Madam Pomfrey left the hospital wing and left me to think about Draco and the argument he and Cedric had. I also thought about the "promise" I made to Cedric that I would stop hanging out with Draco. I wasn't going to do what I said. Draco was my friend and Cedric wasn't gonna stand in the way.
