A firm hand shook me awake. My brain instantly went into panic mode, I jumped back against the door my heart thumping against my chest as I cowered away. Chris?
"Hey, hey I'm sorry!" John's English accent flooded my head. Deep breaths! It's not Chris. I opened my eyes to see worried Green irises looking back at me. He held his hands up in a reassuring matter. He wasn't going to hurt me! I straightened myself up and cleared my throat.
"I'm sorry, I forgot where I was for a minute." My voice was gravely from sleep as John's expression softened dramatically. He took a steaming coffee cup out of a box he had on his lap and handed it to me.
"Thank you." I whispered taking the cup, the warmth radiating onto my hands sent goose bumps over my flesh.
"Okay! I will not go any further with out knowing what the hell happened to you. I found you on the side of a lonely highway in the freezing cold and now even the sudden wrong gestures or movement terrifies you! What happened? Please tell me! I want to help." He pleaded making my heart tighten painfully. Can I trust him? He's helped me so far with out hurting me!
"How do I know I can trust you?" He looked taken back by my question.
"Well, that's a good question. In today's world trust is a difficult thing. I swear on my families life that no harm will come your way. I want to help you!" His words were calculated and sincere. He spoke slowly pronouncing every vowel with efficency.
"Ok!" I decided, I can't spend my life in constant fear that I will be hurt again.
"Ok?" He asked with raised eyebrows.
"Yes okay! I was in an abusive relationship since high school, I'm 22 years old and pregnant. I ran because I will not bring up my baby in a house full of selfish drunk bastards. I have no family but I do have money! I saved it because I knew I was going to escape. Chris doesn't know I'm pregnant and I will never tell him. He was possessive and got jealous so easily. It's just, I couldn't deal with it anymore and t-the baby gave me a reason." Sobbing hopelessly I let the tears fall, it was okay to cry sometimes! A hand touched my shoulder but I didn't jump. It felt different this time. He hasn't hurt me, he had the chance when I was asleep but he didn't do anything. I can trust him!
"I'm sorry! About everything. God I wish my wife was here she would know exactly what to say. She's a big believer in fate you know! She read these books that seemed to hook her entire life and fish her out of the darkness. We are brought together for a reason unknown to us, I'm meant to help you." He was rambling passionately about what he believes. He loves his wife, I can tell that much.
"Thank you!" I gurgled.
"For what?" He questioned.
"Being honest, you trust me enough to talk about your loved ones in front of me and you tried to comfort me. No one has done that in a long time! You're better at comforting than you think!" I chuckled warmly. He grinned happily as he pulled out a small McDonald's bag from beside him and handed it to me. Pancakes?
"I haven't had pancakes for years!" I gushed, opening the box to reveal steaming fluffy pancakes. My mouth watered at the very sight of them.
"I eat far to many!" John chuckled.
"So what are you planning to do?" He took a big sip of coffee before fixing his eyes on me. We were stopped just outside a McDonald's, snow was still falling heavily and the ground was covered thickly. I loved snow!
"I want to get as far away as possible!" I said honest digging into the pancakes like my life depended on it.
"I have a lot of family in Scotland that would be willing to help!" He said casually. I chocked on a piece of Pancake. What?
"You would be willing to help me move to Scotland?" I questioned completely astounded by his generous offering.
"Well why not, there's a small thing called 'The Law of Attraction', I give out kindness and positivity and eventually the Universe will return it. I will help you with anything you want to do if it means you and your baby has a safe and happy life!" I wanted to hug him so badly.
"Omg well Scotland would be perfect." I whispered my voice failing me in my state of shock.
"My wife could meet you at the airport, my family lives in a small town outside Edinburgh, my Sister has a small cottage up for rent. It's meant to be I would say!" He chuckled, he was quite pleased by my reaction.
"I couldn't get you to do all of that for me." I argued, how can a stranger be so kind?
"I want to do it, I have a feeling that if I trust you with what I am giving you you will not disappoint me also only if you remember to keep a close eye on my love for me, she tends to get herself into trouble sometimes!" He giggled, actually giggled. My cheeks were sore from smiling. The universe has seen my suffering and is giving me a break. Scotland? Wow!
"Ok let's make a deal!" He pulled out a notepad and a pen.
"You need to go shopping, clothes, suitcase and other things. We need to book you a ticket for a plane. I need to call my family and you need to eat more and sleep more." He grinned handing me the pad.
"Ok, deal but I will pay for everything!" I said seriously, running a hand through my hair. This is all happening so quickly.
"Ok. First stop a mall!" He cheered turning the truck on and driving out of the car park. 'The Law of Attraction'? I thought to myself. I will remember that.
"I never though I would be excited to go to a mall!" He laughed heartedly driving through the snow effortlessly. "I haven't been to a mall in a very long time, I don't even know what to expect!" I said munching on the hash brown that was hiding under the box of pancakes.
"Well prepared to be shocked! New technology and fashion it's very overwhelming." He said casually, he was so easy to talk to and you felt comfortable almost immediately. I made the right decision!
