2 months later:
Everything had changed! Everything! I had settled into the new home with ease. Kate had gone back to her house leaving me feeling rather empty. I had an appointment every month at the hospital to cheek the pregnancy which is thankfully going smoothly even after all the stress. Ive gained the habit of daily walks and eating properly. After my meeting at the government office I left a complete mess. Burying myself within my bed sheets, I cried. I found out my mother had died. The woman who gave birth to me then left. Leaving me nothing. It felt as if my life's events flowed across my eyelids awakening every single slap, punch, scream and tears that haunted my very soul.
My hands were folded tightly in my lap, my head was spinning, nerves eating at my stomach as the lawyer in front of me straightened his stack of papers. Kate glanced at me giving me a reasuring smile.
"Isabelle Keller or preferably Isabelle Crane, your parents were never married? Your mother Sylvia Keller was born in Inverness, Scotland 1963 and passed away on the 7th of June 2015 in Peebles, Scotland. I have also come to understand that your father passed 3 days after, i am deeply sorry! Sylvia was a magnificent woman, strong hearted and fast witted. I'm sorry you never got to know her. Would you like me to continue?" The man's voice was soft as it shook me out of my slight daze.
"Please!" I chocked out. She lived in Scotland all this time. She was Scottish. Now she's dead, before I could even meet her properly. Why did she leave me?
"Sylvia's will clearly states that everything she owned is yours. She was a smart woman, putting thousands of pounds into blooming businesses earning her a substantial amount of wealth. All she has written is everything that was hers is now her daughters, I had been trying to find you but it seems you found me." The lawyer smiled showing his dimples. I was speechless, completely and utterly speechless. Why me?
"Miss. Keller's 15 million pound bank savings and her country estate are all yours. She made a deal with the businesses she put money into, that the contract will expire the minute she passes. Do you understand?" Black spots filled my vision as the room spun around my head. Holy shit! 15 million pounds and an estate? This has to be a joke.
"Isabelle are you okay honey?" Kate grabbed my hands stopping the trembling as I took deep breathes.
"I-it's just a-alot to take in!" I stuttered slowing my heart rate.
"Yes I'm am sorry. So you are legally aloud to live in the UK since your mother was British so getting a British passport would be ideal also a drivers licence if you are planning to drive. I advise you if you would like to visit the estate maybe in time consider selling it? I have the keys to the house so anytime call when you are ready and I would be happy to take you myself. If you would could you sign here to confirm that you have accepted the inheritance please." What the fuck is happening. I blanked out half of what he had said. My fingers numbly taking the pen within my fingers. My signature splayed across the bottom of the page in a scribbled mess.
"A pleasure meeting you Miss Crane!" The lawyer which I just realized was called Tom Salden offered me his hand. I shook it weakly. He handed me a folder before I followed Kate out of the door. Everything else was a blur. Before I knew it I was sitting on the couch, a blanket wrapped around my shoulders and a cup of tea in my hands. The sound of Hozier drifted around my ears.
"Isabelle, I have to go pick up my daughter from the University. I'll come over on Wednesday to check up. I'm so sorry about everything." Kate bent down giving me a hug before walking to the front door.
"Thank you Kate!" I piped up.
"Anytime!" She shouted as the door closed behind her. Alone, again. Sighing loudly lying against couch and closing my eyes. I'm sick of feeling alone! The next 6 months couldn't come any quicker. I couldn't wait to have this baby, we will be a family. "Isabelle Crane the lost cause!" I whispered to myself.
"I'm a fucking millionaire, I'm pregnant, I'm technically an orphan, have like 3 friends and hungry as fuck!" I shouted to no one in particular. God I was starving and I sounded like I was going crazy. I was stuck between wanting to cry, scream or laugh. Being pregnant is messed up! Placing my tea on the coffee table I fling the blanket from my shoulder strolling into the kitchen.
"Food? I need food!" Dashing to the fridge I pull it open to be met by the disappointing sight of empty shelves. Perfect! Dry cornflakes perhaps? Shit no cornflakes. Nothing! Not even a slither of bread or fruit. I need to go shopping. My stomach grumbled hungrily. What am I going to do? Standing with my hands on my hips my eyes roamed the clean kitchen counters. A small piece of crinkled paper caught my eye. Nathan Beauchamp! My possible knight in shinning armor? Kate is away getting her daughter and I don't have a car. Would he mind? Well he did say
if I needed anything he would help. Biting my bottom lip in frustration I grab the home phone of its charger before smoothing the receipt out on the butcher block.
Dialing the number, nerves jumbling painfully in my stomach. The dream reigniting in my mind bringing a blush to my cheeks. Those god damned golden eyes and their power to leave me sense less. I was so caught up that I didn't realize that familiar voice speaking through the phone.
"Nathan Beauchamp, how can I help you?" He spoke clearly leaving my mouth dry.
"Uh hi Nathan, it's u-uh Isabelle." I half expected him just to hang up. A deep chuckle rumble through the speaker, goose bumps covering my arms.
"Isabelle, how have you been? I was going to stop by to see how things were going." I chocked slightly.
"I'm ok I guess, how about you?" Good normal civilized conversation.
"I'm great, so how can I help you?"
"I was wondering, well if you have the time, I mean you don't have too..." I was cut off by yet again another laugh.
"U-uh sorry I'm rambling. Could you take me to the grocery store?" I blurted, stupid, you ruined it! It was going so well!
"Yeah sure, I'll pick you up around 5:30, I'm not working this after noon and need to do some shopping myself." My hormones were driving me crazy.
"That's would be amazing thank you!"
"Anytime, see you then!" He hung up before I got to embarrass myself more. Placing the phone onto the counter. Panic rose within me. I look like a mess. I've got 20 minutes to make myself presentable. Jogging up the stairs a strange giddy sensation making my heart pound. This is going to be interesting!
