The Flight

I felt like a fly that had just been swotted out of the air and was lying on the ground staring into oblivion, still and shocked! We stood outside security. The boarding pass and passport clutched tightly in my small boney hand. My feet were as if they had been plastered into the smooth hard floor. I was rattled and frozen. What am I doing? A soft caress on my shoulder brought me back.
"Your going to miss your flight if you don't move!" John chuckled. He held his hands in front of him. I noticed he was covering his bruised knuckles.
"Uh yeah, I'm a little shaken up that's all! Well I suppose I should go. Thank you so much for everything that you've done. You have been more of a father than my dad ever was. Goodbye!" I pulled him in for a tight hug.
"You'll be alright! Kate will be waiting for you, she has short blonde hair and blue eyes and a small scar on her nose! Isabelle Crane I wish you all the luck in the world." He grinned widely. I walked forward giving a quick glance over my shoulder to see John still standing there with pride in his aged eyes. A father I never had!! I smiled to myself as I placed my things into a grey container and slid it along. I walked through the metal detectors to find my stuff waiting for me on the other side.

Walking through the airport I had 30 minutes before boarding the plane so I searched for a pharmacy. Finding a Boots I bought a bottle of water and paracetamol along with a packet of Hershey kisses, a notepad, pens and 2 books. Stepping into a small Starbucks I finally realised how free I felt. No more Chris! My life has started. Buying a large Mocha and blueberry muffin I found a seat outside my gate. Deciding the best thing I could do was people watching, I sat gazing lazily at the passing humans sipping softly on my coffee.

Before I knew it I stood in line holding my ticket and a small smile graced my lips, even though I had a black eye coming on and people staring at me I felt great. Walking down the airplane I found my seat pulling my backpack onto my lap i rested my head against the head rest and let out a big breath. Finally I'm leaving! Clicking my seat belt in I zoned out as the air attendants droned on about safety before the plane pulled out onto the runway. Luckily I got the window seat so I watched the soft snow flakes fall as we swept effortlessly into the air. I was handed a set of earphones which I plugged into the small radio station which was built into the arm rest. Folk music played softly into my brain settling my nerves and easing the pain which throbbed through my skull. Pulling the notepad and pens out of my bag I start making a list. Labeling the title:
LIFE CHANGE:
- healthy diet
- exercise
- find job
- make friends
- be the best mother I can be
- never let anyone control you
- be positive

Nibbling on the end of the pen lost in thought the sudden urge to pee hit me. Untangling myself I stood up moving past the sleeping woman who was sat beside me. Walking quietly down the plane I slid into the empty toilet and did my business. My stomach twisted tightly, I could feel the vomit rise up my throat as I stared into my mirror. Morning sickness, seriously?!! I emptied the contents of my stomach before washing my mouth out and opening the door. Stepping out my face hit into a solid wall. The bruise on my face pounded with agony as hands gripped my shoulders steadying me.
"Shit, I'm sorry!" The broad Scottish accent made me look up. My breath hitched as deep golden eyes stared down at me with worry. Being with Chris a lot of my teenage life I never had the chance to find other men attractive and by god this man was attractive. I felt like a 12 being kissed for the first time. Giddy and childish. I gawked at this gorgeous man, his quiffed brown hair and broad shoulders set my mind wheeling.
"Are you okay? I didn't cause that did I?" He gestured to my eye bringing me back to reality.
"U-uh no sorry it was my fault I wasn't paying attention." We were left staring at each other.
"Um ill go, nice to meet you. Bye!" I did an awkward wave before shuffling away to my seat leaving him slightly dazed. 'Nice to meet you?' Did I actually just say that, I mean who says that? I really need to catch up on the modern way of communicating. I sat down briskly, the sickness feeling had subsided completely as I took out one of the books I had in my bag. In gold letters the title caught my attention once again. 'The Wolf And The Dove' by Kathleen Woodiwiss. A romance. How tragic! Flicking to the first page I immediately get transported into the story. A small huff left my lips as a hand gripped my shoulder pulling my attention back into reality. Whirling around i find the air attendants looking at me expectantly.
"Uh sorry!" I gurgled out.
"Would you like the chicken or pork?" The air attendant sent me a sickeningly sweet smile making me inwardly cringe.
"Pork thanks!" She handed over the steaming plate with my asked for Apple juice. My stomach rumbled with anticipation. I checked the time on the small screen in front of me, it read, 7:30pm. How long have I been reading for? Digging into my food I glance out the window, the sky was black and small flickers of lights blinked up for the ground. We must be flying over the England. Devouring the food I settle back against the headrest a small tug of nerves bit at my insides. Looking around the same quiffed brown hair caught my eye. He was 5 rows ahead but his height set him above everyone else. Those golden eyes haunting my thoughts as the plane lowered and prepared for landing.
