The landing was anything but graceful. The powerful winds and thick fog put the pilots to the test. Waiting for the woman beside me to leave the seats i pulled my jacket on then my backpack eventually I slid out into the line of people waiting to get off the plane.
I strolled casually through the airport my eyes annoyingly searching for golden eyes as I stopped in front of the baggage claim. Spotting my suitcase I moved forward through the crowd. Stepping into a clearing I reached for the grey handle but it was pulled out before I could reach it. I spun around to find none other than golden eyes. Yeah I'm just gonna call him that! I raised an eyebrow at his obvious smirk. He pushed the suitcase into my hands.
"I'm Nathan Beauchamp by the way!" He offered his hand. Confident much? "Isabelle Crane. Thanks for getting my case um I've got to go!" I shook his hand then turned not really knowing what else to say. How do you even speak to guys these days? I walked away feeling his eyes on my back. Goosebumps crawled over my skin. Idiot! I mentally screamed. Your getting distracted. Keep walking and find Kate.Walking out the exit my eye caught the exact description of Kate and luckily to save myself from further awkwardness she held a sigh with my name written in green sharpie on it. My nerves jumped painfully as I went to her.
"I'm Isabelle Crane, pleasure to meet you!" I offered her my hand as her blue eyes roamed my face, a motherly smile graced her lips.
"Kate McMillian. The pleasure is all mine. John told me so much well as much as he knew! I'm so sorry dare!" Her scottish accent surprising me as instead of accepting my hand she wrapped her arms around my small frame hugging me softly.
"Come on let's get a coffee then I'll take you to your new home!" She quipped happily glancing at my half swollen face before folding the piece of paper that was permanently stained with green ink and shoved it in her bag before grabbing my arm and linking hers around it.
"So I will be staying with you for a little while if that's okay? I want to make sure you settle in okay! We'll spend the first couple days to let you get used to the house. Then we can discuss further details. What do you want?" She gestured to the Starbucks board. My eyes gazed over it.
"English breakfast tea would be amazing thanks!" I searched through my bag trying to find my purse but I was too late. Kate handed over a 10 pound note. One of my ultimate pet peeves is people spending their money on me. I pulled out a 5 pound note handing it to Kate. She looked at me like I'd gone crazy!
"Don't be silly, I'm here to help you this is just a start." She chuckled warmly taking the note from my hand and shoving it back into my bag. Huffing internally I looked around. Glasgow airport was nice, not as big as Denver, not by a long way. Scottish accent flowed around my ears. Surprisingly it is easier to understand than I thought. The cold Scottish air hit me full force as we walked to Kate's car, she was extremely easy to talk to considering were still pretty much strangers. A black range rover appeared before me. It was beautiful but what really caught my eye was this amazing sleek burgundy sports car beside it.
"What is that car?" I questioned randomly. Kate looked startled by my question.
"It's a Jaguar I think, their pretty nice especially the new models."
"I want one!" I said half determined half bewildered how can a car be so perfect? I've never been much of a car lover but this is an exception. Hoping into the passenger seat my backpack at my feet in front of me I sit back relaxing into the comfy chair when my eyes catch that unmistakable brown hair. I slid down slightly hoping he wouldn't see me. Why am I doing this?
I watched carefully as he pulled a set of keys out of his pocket. The jags lights lit up as Nathan opened up the back and placed his suitcase in. That's his car? Seeing him slip into the front seat effortlessly my stomach flipped. He and the car are both gorgeous and together it's like double the pleasure! Omg stop. Kate pulls out of the parking lot and drives away leaving me disappointed. I could have watched him climb into that car all day. Well from afar.
"You should get some sleep it's about a 2 hour drive to Peebles!" Kate spoke softly as a folk radio station played peaceful tunes. Closing my eyes I finally let it sink in. I moved to Scotland! Away from Chris, away from everything.A soft hand clutched my shoulder. Opening me eyes I was greeted by bright blue ones.
"We're here!" She grinned taking my hand and helping me out of the car. My breathe caught at what was in front of me. A beautiful 2 storey stone cottage rose from the ground. Trees surrounded the house perfectly, flowers grew up the wall covering the front of the house. An orange glow seeped through the front door as smoke billowed out of the chimney. It was a dream! Tears poured out of my eyes I felt like i was healing now, I forced myself at Kate hugging her tightly.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I babbled sobbing into her chest. She pushed me back wiping the tears from my red cheeks.
"Let's go inside!" She handed me the keys and ushered me towards the door. The keys shook in my hand as I pushed it into the lock. The door opened up into a hallway with cream walls. Kate walked in with my suitcase and started moving up the stairs.
"Have a look around I'll take this to your room!" She chuckled at my shocked face. This is my home! I closed the door behind me before taking shaky steps further down the hallway past the stairs. I walked into the first left door, it opened into a small room with wooden floors. Perfect for an office or exercise room. Walking further down I open the door on my right, a medium sized room with wide windows and an ensuite, dark walls and carpeted floors. Guest bedroom! I continued down the hallway there was either a door to my left or one straight ahead which actually didn't have a door. Turning left the door opened, flicking on the light my heart did a double take. A huge kitchen with new red appliances and wooden shelves and benches along with a butchers block and a long wooden dinning table. The right wall was open into what I was guessing the lounge. I walked carefully through flicking on another light. This time a gasp escaped me. The far wall was pretty much all window. A huge fireplace sat on the right wall and a big couch positioned in front of it. It was equipped with nearly every electronic device that I didn't even know the names of. It was perfect, amazingly perfect. I was knocked out of my daze as Kate walked in she smiled proudly before taking me hand and pulling me up stairs. There were 2 doors, one on the right or one at the end.
"Well Isabelle I am going to bed! Your bedrooms straight ahead so if you need me for anything I'll be right here, I'll go down stairs and turn off the lights, I want you to go for a shower then straight to bed! Goodnight!" Her motherly authority took me back. She hugged me once more before pushing me towards my room.
"Goodnight!" I whispered quietly before opening my door. Heart failure once again. The walls were cream except for one which was a dark grey it held a TV and decor as the far wall was a huge window with a balcony. Soft curtains fell over the windows as a king sized bed with deep red blankets sat in the middle of the left wall. To my right a door which led into my ensuite. Closing my bedroom door behind me I stripped my clothes before walking into the bathroom. As soon as you walk in a door to a walk in wooden be stood ajar as the far wall of the bathroom sat a bathtub and shower. I stepped into the warm water of the shower feeling it soak into my stiff bones. I stayed there for a while before finally climbing out. Not even bothering to clothe myself I climbed into bed laying a towel against the pillow to protect against my wet hair. Turning off the lights I let my brain wander. I'm finally home!
