"Cameron, where are you going?" I shouted. He ran off into the meadow.
It was a beautiful spring day. The sun seemed to shine brighter, the flowers seemed to smell better, and life seemed to be a whole lot happier.
"Cameron?" I called.
He didn't answer. I had no option but to go in and look for him myself. My long dress brushed against the tall grasses. Occasionally, I would bend down and sniff the little purple and pink flowers. The sun was beginning to set and behind the trees and created a beautiful array of colors: orange, yellow, purple, pink. A cool breeze blew.
"Where are you?" I repeated.
He didn't answer once again. I was beginning to worry. Then, he slid his arms around me from behind. All worries melted away and I smiled.
"There you are. You had me worried sick," I told him. He smiled. The wind slightly tousled his brown hair. I was captivated by his green eyes.
"Come with me." He grabbed my hand and led me deeper into the meadow. We stopped at our spot.
Months ago, Cameron and I were wandering around the meadow when we came across a big oak tree. It had one thick branch that stretched out. We would sit on it and watch the view.
"We were just here not too long ago," I murmured.
"Yes, but you have to see the view at sunset. It's beautiful Justine." He helped me up onto the branch and we both sat there.
The sun was just a little sliver behind the horizon and things were beginning to calm down. I sighed.
"It's wonderful," I said.
We looked out at the view.
"Do ever think about running away?" Cameron asked. He focused his attention on me.
"No. Why would I ever do such a thing?" I asked. It was a peculiar question for him to ask.
"I was just wondering what it would be like to get away from here... with you."
"I could never! I couldn't leave my family. There are so many things to think about if we do so."
"I was speaking theoretically. What if we did? What if we just packed up our bags and left right now? We could travel the world. Go to Europe, Paris. Anywhere. Wouldn't you just love the feeling of starting over?"
I thought about it. "Yes I would. But we could never."
"I'm trying to get you to think about new things Justine. Something different," he noted.
"Oh." He hopped off of the branch and helped me down as well.
He shoved his hand in his pocket and knelt down on one knee.
"Justine McCaul. The love of my life. The sweet sound of music. My reason for living. Will you do me the honor in joining me for marriage?" he asked.
He opened a little box and showed me a diamond ring.
I breathed raggedly. Nervousness pulsed through my veins.
A smile broke across my face. "Yes. Yes I will!" He slid the ring on my finger and stood up.
He cupped my face in his warm gentle hands and kissed me. Our lips moved together in one motion until we pulled apart.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too. And I always will."
