All night, I had forced myself to stay awake. As Cameron was tying me up in Chicago, I had realized that he was the one. The one that was trying to expose me, the one who had been following me, the one who was trying to kill me. And to think that I had kissed him! What was I thinking? Setting myself free of him by kissing him? It had worked, but things just gradually got worse.
I had no clue where I was headed, where he was taking me. All I knew was that I forgave my enemy and he kidnapped me. I wondered if Officer Coleman was looking for me. While spending time in the small space, I attempted to come up with a plan for escape, but weariness was taking me over.
The car screeched to a stop. The car door slammed and I heard Cameron open the trunk. My eyes winced at the sight of sunlight and I enjoyed the scent of fresh air. I knew I was back in Holdenburg.
Cameron took the tape off of my mouth.
"What the hell is wrong with you? What are you doing to me?" I screamed. He rolled his eyes.
"Geez Justine. Get over yourself." I had hoped the someone would have heard me, but no one did. My pleads for mercy had echoed, bouncing off the walls of the forest.
"Cameron, answer me honestly. What. The. Fuck. Are. You. Going. To. Do. With. Me?" He chuckled.
"Isn't it obvious? You're going to die," he replied.
"Why? Why you?"
He paced back and forth. "I understand that you apologized, but words are just that. Words. Pathetic meaningless words. Something that I don't think you understand Justine is that you broke my heart. I built the perfect life for us. What was so bad about it? We were two young people madly in love. We could've lived forever together. How did you repay me? By throwing the ring in my face and leaving. This is simply our revenge."
"Our?"
Cameron smiled. "Yes, you will meet the others soon."
"Like I told you before, I didn't ask for that life. You assumed that I wanted it. But something I don't think you understand is that you destroyed everything. My family, my home, and even you. You turned into some else completely the moment I saw you standing in blood with that sinister look on your face. I was human and that was all I wanted. An average human life. Was that too much to ask for?"
He scowled, ignored me, and waited.
"When will the others be coming?" I asked.
"Soon enough. We just have to wait."
"Okay, I'm not fucking going to be kidnapped and tied up just to wait for some dumb ass to show up so you can kill me. Just do it now and get it over with."
Cameron shot up out of his car, ran into the car, and came back with a syringe. He poked it into my skin and I was gone.
"Should we wait for her to wake up?" I heard someone ask.
"Yes, but if she's not up within fifteen minutes, we'll just do it."
My head rolled around in a circle and my eyes slowly opened. I now understood what druggies found so cool about being wasted. It was like the whole world had stopped just to see you wake up.
"Whatever you're waiting for, you can start," I managed to slur, and I sounded drunk.
Someone clapped their hands. "Great, let's begin."
When I could finally see straight again, I found myself in a familiar place. I was in the room where I had found broken Greg. A few people had surrounded me and Cameron was one of them. They all seemed to obey one man; he had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. He didn't seem like a big threat.
"This is your big master?" I asked Cameron, pointing to the guy in front of me.
I expected Cameron to do something, but the man with the blue eyes laughed instead.
"Wow, Cameron. You really know how how to pick 'em!" Cameron smiled shyly.
The man stepped towards me and fingered my hair in his hands. He inspected me, plucked a hair off of my head, and sniffed it.
"Oh yes, she is an original." A smile crept upon his face. All was silent until I spoke up.
"Look, I don't know what's going here but it's kind of confusing. Would one of you gentlemen please explain?"
The man laughed again. "Yup, that's eighteen hundreds talk right there."
He sat in front me. "How's your family Justine?"
"Dead."
"Oh, what happened?" he asked.
"Cameron killed them."
The man looked at him. "Cameron, that was awfully rude of you," he replied using a condescending tone.
He focused his attention back to me. "Do you know a lot about your family bloodline?"
"No. I was just raised to hate zombies."
"Hmph." He thought for a little while.
"What do you know about zomibes?" he asked.
"Well I used to think that they were fake. That people just described them as monsters. When I was turned, I taught myself to maintain humanity."
"Why were you in Holdenburg?" I felt like I was being interrogated, but then I realized that that was just what I was doing.
"I disobeyed the law."
"What law was that?"
"To not hunt a human who is a major contributor to society."
He nodded his head. "You are a fresh generation Justine. Rebellious. Dangerous. Continue on. Now you mentioned something about humanity. What does that mean to you?"
"Humanity? It means absolutely nothing to me," I lied.
"Really?"
I nodded.
"Bring him in," he told someone. A large man dragged in Officer Coleman. He threw him on the ground net to me.
"You wouldn't mind if I killed him?"
My heart beat dropped. I could see the look of surrender in Officer Coleman's eyes. He was depressed, he lost his family. He had nothing left.
Eve if it killed me to do so, I said, "No."
He stepped forward, and snapped his neck. Officer Coleman fell to the ground.
I continued to have my poker face.
"You're very good at this."
"Thank you."
"You have such talent. It's such a waste that I have to kill you."
"You're using me to destroy all zombies, I know that. You could use any other original, but why me? There was a whole coven of them."
"Well Mr. Seton, Cameron, and I all wanted something from you. Mr. Seton wanted you gone because you were a threat to his children. It's a shame they all killed him. I just wanted one origianal but he couldn't even do that. That's what I get for trusting a stupid human. Cameron wanted revenge from your pointless love story. And me, well I want our kind to be gone for good. It will be twice as better with someone who has the same blood as I do."
"You're a zombie?" I asked.
"Yes, I am."
"And you're also related to me? Are you some long lost brother?"
He chuckled deeply. "You'll have to pardon me, I've been waiting for this day for so long that it seems I forgot to introduce myself. I am Owen Patel."
