My Brother's Enemy

Chapter 16:

-Niall's POV-

I had given the money. Harry had given the money. She's being sent home. She'll be safe and that's all I wanted. I wanted Sam to be safe and happy. If not with me, with anyone but I just want her to be happy. I was going to Harry's to see her. He'd cooled off a bit on if I could see her or not.

I sighed and tapped my fingers against the outside of the car. The weather was just right. Sunny but with a slight breeze.

When I found out she was missing, I was surprised and worried. I was hoping she was okay; because let's face it, we all know I love her.

Harry pulled up at his house soon. When I looked, everyone was outside. Crying. What? They're meant to be happy! She's coming back today! Police cars and ambulance surrounded the house. I gasped as I looked at what they were all looking at. A body. Getting out of the car, me and Harry rushed to the lifeless body.

Her emerald eyes were no longer visible as her eyelids were shut. Her usual plump lips were dry. There was dried up blood on her and she looked so lifeless. I didn't say anything or show any emotion. Whilst Harry cried for her, telling her to wake up, I kneeled down beside her and stroked back her hair.

I blinked away tears because I knew, that, she was dead. She was no longer that bubbly girl or that girl who always smiled. Neither the girl who always had a comeback. She was lifeless. Pale. Dead. Her cheeks weren't the usual rosy. Her hair wasn't glowing brown. She didn't stand out brightly. She was pale.

I laid down next to her, wanting to know what it felt like to be dead. Closing my eyes, I tried to imagine what it was like to be her right now. Was she in heaven with both mine and her Dads? Was she floating around next to all of us, like a ghost? Was she just playing dead as a joke? Maybe I'll never know. I'll never know what she was doing that exact moment I lay next to her. As my eyes were closed, I silently cried.

We couldn't track the killer. Not in anyway. It was all a mystery. We didn't know who asked for the money. We didn't know who killed her. We didn't know who kidnapped her in the first place. It was all a mystery.

After a while, police and the ambulance disappeared after telling us that she was officially dead.

I sat in the back garden with my feet in the little swimming pool. I could feel her presence. She was still here, somehow. Her ghostly figure sat next to me, leaning her head against my shoulder. I chuckled as she poked my cheek.

"I'm sorry, Niall..." She whispered. I bit my lip, unsure of what she was talking about.

"I can't stay," then, she started to fade away. I reached out for her hand but she was already gone. Gone for good.

"No! Sam!" I called out but she didn't answer. She was no longer here. I sniffled as I cried silently. The feeling was back. The pained feeling you get when you loose someone. The feeling of revenge you need to get on the murderer. I slid off the edge and fell into the pool, purposely. I felt like I was falling off a cliff, waiting to hit the ground but I never did. I floated, soon surfacing. My breathing was fast and urgent as my lungs begged for air. So that's what fear felt like. That's what Sam felt before she died. If she knew she was going to die.

"She died. Doesn't mean you have to as well," I heard a voice from behind me. Turning around, I discovered it was Lucy's voice. One of Sam's best friends. She sat next to me. I shrugged,

"I wasn't dying. I wanted to know how it felt to fear something like death," I mumbled. She nodded, looking at the drops of water, coming off of me and creating ripples.

"She feared death. Never used to talk about it but you could tell she thought about it. She did once say to me that everyday, we're getting closer to our death day. It's interesting. I never thought she'd go so soon," Lucy explained, her eyes welling up. I shook my head and sighed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

"She would've hated to see one of her best friends in tears, y'know," I whispered, hugging her close and rubbing circles on her arm. She nodded.

"She loved you." I nodded at her words, saying I loved Sam too.

"She never cheated on you with Ewan, y'know. It was a dare. The only slept in the same bad as they were told to." Lucy said quietly, sobbing into my t-shirt. I nodded, words not forming. For the next half an hour, she told me about how Sam got kidnapped and I listened.

Sam hadn't listened to anyone and decided to go on a walk at midnight. She never came back.

Why did she want to go on a midnight walk? No one will never know. She's not here to answer my question. She's not here to do anything but show everyone that she's dead.
