My Brother's Enemy

Chapter 18:

-Niall's POV-

*5 Years Later*

There were no more gangs. No more bullets. No more knives. No more killing. No more wars. Just like Sam would've wanted it to be. There was now a memorial down by the park, where we had our first date. It was a place where you could sit and just think about her. How you miss her. What effect she had on your life; and even if you didn't know her, you could go and think about what she would be like. Just be in the moment with her. I guess you could read a book there.

I sighed and leaned on my comforters.

"Daddy!" A little voice yelled. I looked over at the door. Adam stood in his pyjamas. He was two today. I grinned at him and he ran over. Placing him in between me and Melody, I kissed his forehead as he snuggled up.

Yes, I decided to move on. One, I couldn't stay broken and lonely forever. It just wasn't what Niall would do. Two, after three years, I couldn't forget her so I decided to try and move on. Mission accomplished. But I still have a voice saying I love her. And the truth is, I do; and Melody understands that. Which is why I like her. Three, I've always wanted to settle down. Weird, right? Bad boy, Niall Horan wanting to settle down. But it's always been a dream. I'm married to Melody and Adam is our son if you didn't notice.

We live in Mullingar but every year, I go back to Cheshire on her birthday and on her death day. Just to sit by the memorial and remember what effect she had on me and my life.

"Happy birthday, Superman," I whispered, kissing his forehead again. A yawn escaped Melody's lips as she awoke. Stretching, she rubbed her eyelids and looked at us. I chuckled and blew her a kiss.

"Morning, Lovely." She smiled as I said the words. I pouted when she got out of bed.

"Where's my morning kiss?"

"Unless you want to kiss morning breath, wait until I brush," She smiled, innocently and I grabbed a pillow, chucking it at her. Adam giggled.

"Happy birthday, Adam!" She grinned at him. He smiled,

"Thank you, Mummy!" He yelled and clutched onto my bare top half. Melody blushed as I pushed the covers off me and stood up. She should be used to me walking around half naked, but she's not for some odd reason. I smirked before picking Adam up and carrying him to the kitchen.

"What would the Birthday Boy like for breakfast?" I asked him as I set him down on his high-chair. He giggled,

"Pancakes!"

I chuckled and nodded. He grinned widely and clapped. Melody soon joined us as I cracked the eggs. When I finished the batter, I poured it onto the pan and made enough for the three of us. I placed a few on each plate before putting the berries, syrup and sugar on the table. I poured out three glasses of juice and sat down in my seat.

"What would the Birthday Boy like to do today?" Melody cooed. I watched as his eyes lit up.

"Water park!" He yelled. I chuckled and nodded. He cheered and quickly finished up his food. After he finished, he scurried off to his bedroom to change. Adam was pretty smart for a two year old. I put my plate in the dishwasher and looked over at Melody. She was now sat on the counter, swinging her legs back and forth. I smiled and winked at her. She blushed.

"Niall, put a shirt on," She murmured. I shook my head,

"We've been together for about two years now. You should be used to my half naked body."

She rolled her eyes and I kissed her cheek. I strolled into our room and grabbed a tank top and jeans. I pulled the jeans on over my swim trunks. Melody changed into her bikini. Over it, she wore a crop top and some high waisted shorts. I pulled out a bag and packed some underwear for both of us and our towels. I got Adam's stuff together and put it in.

"Are we ready?" I yelled.

"Yes we are!" They yelled back. I laughed and ran out to them. They were standing by the car, arms crossed. I smiled at how alike they looked. Their eyebrows were furrowed and they were both tapping their right foot against the ground.

Melody had grey eyes which made Adam's eyes a pale blue. It was cute.

I hopped into the car with them and we were off. I forgot that today, it was Harry's birthday as well as Adam's. Me and Harry had learnt to move aside everything and become friends. Once we got to the water park, I told the mother and son to go ahead whilst I make a call. She nodded and gave me a small smile. I smiled back and slipped my phone out, calling Harry. He picked up on fourth ring.

"Hello?" He answered.

"Hey, Harry! It's Niall. Called to say Happy Birthday!" I said, cheerily.

"Thanks, man. How's Adam? It's his second, right?"

"Yeah. I'll Skype you in a few hours. He's having fun with Melody at the water park."

"Aw, that's sweet. How is Melody, anyway?" He asked.

"She's great. Bubbly as always." I smiled as I saw her laugh. After a bit more small chat, I ended the call. So that's my life now. Happy and married. Obviously, I still have Sam in my mind. She hasn't gone and I don't think she ever will go.

I just want to tell the teenagers to never get too close. It hurts when loved one leaves. It's better to be independent but you still got to enjoy yourself.

Life throws the unexpected at you.

And it's very unexpected.

Just have fun while you can.
