Chapter 2: My life has changed for the better
We stood there and talked about ourselves and school for what seemed like hours. Even though, in reality, it was only about twenty minutes. My friends had come out of the theatre and spotted me almost immediately, but they had politely taken a seat on one of the old black benches and let me talk to him. It was quite hard to talk to him without blushing with my friends around but somehow I managed. Ending the conversation was the hardest part for both of us but before I could even say anything he surprised me and just about made my face turn tomato red (once again). “I was wondering”, he began, “if you had a cell phone and maybe I could, you know, ask you for your number. If that’s alright with you…. I mean if you’re not ok with it….” I broke him off mid-sentence, handing him a small piece of paper with my number scribbled on it in black ink. As soon as he saw what it was his face lit up and his smile consumed my mind once again. “Thanks, would you like mine. You know, just in case it doesn’t work or something.” “Yeah, good idea.” After handing me a small piece of folded paper we said goodbye and I began to walk away.
“Oh. My. Goodness!!” the girls cheered when I joined them again. “He has your number, he might be able to go to our school, he’s…” “Guys I know, I know. Calm down before you all pass out!” I wasn’t surprised at how excited they were, it was a normal thing for them. “Oh it’s going to be perfect!” Lexi began. “You guys are going to be the cutest couple ever, I can already tell! And you can…. But what if…..” she kept going on like this for about ten minutes; saying half in her mind and half out loud, the norm for Lexi. Eventually I had to stop her and say my goodbyes when I noticed my dad’s old Ford truck pulling in front of the large glass doors to the theatre.
I quickly cracked opened the door to my bedroom and practically ran in, jumping on my bed and retrieving my phone. As soon as it clicked to life I noticed the large number flashing on my scree. “38 New Messages” it read. Oh my goodness, 38 messages?! Well, I’m sure that about 35 or so are from Lexi and the remaining three from my other friends. Let’s see: Lexi- 20 new messages, that’s odd, Ally- 3 new messages, typical, Liza- 1 new message, Daniel- 1 new message, Morgan- 1 new message…….. Unknown name- 12 new messages. Ok there is no way that John could have sent me 12 messages, if that’s the unknown name. I mean, he probably hasn’t even texted me yet or even thought about me since I left. I’m sure it’s someone I know that got a new number and apparently has a lot to tell me. Guess I should check and see, can’t just sit here forever you know. “Hey what’s up? Oh yea, it’s john by the way…. Um sorry bout tht I should have told you my name first, my bad…” well I now know that John is the unknown number, and that he’s bad with texting.
“Hey, it’s Claire.” My finger hovered over the send button afraid of what he’d say and well, afraid to send it.
