Are You Enrolling Sir?

Without thinking, I rush out the door and call her name. The girl turns and I know it's her without a doubt. Her eyes grow wide and she turns on spot, disappearing in a snap. I realize I fell to my knees when George shakes me until I focus again.
"It was her. I know it was." I mutter.
"Why'd she leave though?"
"She hates me..." I mutter again, getting to my feet.
"I doubt that. Let's check her flyer and see what it says. Maybe we can track her down that way."
I let him lead me back to the window. The flyer is advertising a studio taking on new dancers. It lists an address down the street from ours and the hours.
"Go see her Fred. Maybe she's there. I'll be here if you need Me."
"What if she won't see me?" I ask.
"It's Lucy. I'm sure she'll want to see you."
I take a deep breath before leaving my brother behind.
I find the storefront easily, a sign with swirling letters spelling out "Binx Studio – Training the elite in the art of ballroom dance". The lights are on but the curtains drawn around the windows to block passerby from watching the dancers I assume. I can faintly hear music playing from inside. I push the door open and step inside quietly, expecting to be interrupting a large class. Instead there's two girls dancing in front of the wall of mirrors, spinning around in time to the music, every step perfectly matching the beat. One is Lucy with her vibrant hair, the other a girl about the age of six in a ballet outfit. Honestly it's adorable. The little girl stumbles a bit and Lucy stops, quietly telling the girl the step while doing the motion. The little blonde nods and tries again, finally getting it right. Lucy smiles and straightens back up to continue the dance with her. Her chocolate eyes flick up to the mirror and she freezes when she spots me. Shaking her head she looks down at the blonde and they continue dancing in sync. The song ends with both of the girls spinning in place. They stop and Lucy tells the girl that she'll see her at the next lesson and the girl turns and runs past me and out into the streets. I look back from the door and find Lucy practicing more of the spins. I watch her until I get dizzy and finally get the courage to speak. When I open my mouth she stops, still facing the mirror and speaks instead.
"Lessons start at 10 galleons, are you interesting in enrolling, Sir?"
I'm taken aback by her question, not expecting that at all.
"Lucy, it's me, Fred. Where were you all this time? What happened? I was worried sick."
"I have several students arriving within a few minutes. Once they arrive, unless you plan on enrolling yourself or someone else, I must ask you to leave at that time." She says, ignoring my questions.
I sigh and cross the room, pulling her into a hug. I take a deep breath and smell her usual scents of strawberries and cotton candy. She stands there quietly before slowly bringing her arms around me and hugging back, burying her face in my shirt.
"I missed you so much Lucy..."
She pulls back and takes a seat on the floor against the mirror. I join her on the floor sitting across from her. I notice that she looks unhealthy, her ribs sticking out noticeably. Her outfit shows it off, being only a pair of black cloth shorts and a grey tank top. She fiddles with her hair as she watches me, waiting for me to say something.
"I uh, I... I'm sorry Lucy, for Christmas. I shouldn't have yelled at you, I just got upset about losing you to that little ferret. I didn't mean any of it."
"You hurt me Fred. I opened up to you and you said you would never judge me or hate me for it, but you did. I trusted you to always be there and you weren't." She replies.
"I'm sorry for it. I want to make it up to you Lucy. What happened to you at The Burrow?"
"I walked out. I couldn't be there any longer and I couldn't be at Hogwarts with Malfoy any longer, so I just walked out. Along the way I thought of how I could fix everything. Now here I am. I have four thousand galleons left until its complete."
"four thousand? Until what?"
"Until I'm free." She says with a shrug. "If I pay the Addams four thousand galleons before the wedding I can buy my freedom and don't have to go through with the engagement."
"So you left school without a word to anyone at all and decided to open a dance studio to buy your freedom?" I ask, trying to let it all sink in.
"Pretty much. I had my bookkeeper come to Hogwarts a couple of days ago to get my trunk. It was easier that way. Why aren't you in Hogwarts?" She retorts, crossing her arms.
"It was bloody brilliant. George, Lee and I came up with a plan. We set up a portable swamp in front of Umbridge's office and set off all of our Whiz Bangs before riding out of Hogwarts on our brooms. We're opening our shop finally." I say, smiling at the events of the morning.
"Sounds like fun. Your Mum will murder the both of you."
"We know. Will you come by the shop? George wants to see you." I ask carefully.
"I have a class coming in, it'll last an hour. I'll come by after I close up."
Her stomach growls suddenly and her face turns red.
"When was the last time you ate? You're skin and bone."
She stutters a bit guiltily, but before she can answer the door opens and a group of about fifteen children come in, the younger ones screaming and the preteens chatting away.
"I have to teach now. I'll see you after class."
"Promise?" I ask, not wanting to risk losing her again.
"Of course. If I don't show up by four thirty, I give you both permission to kidnap me." She smiles slightly before standing up.
"Can I watch?" I ask, not wanting to leave.
"If you interrupt the class or get in the way I will hex you, but I suppose just this once."
I smile and scoot over to the corner where I can see her and the students.
She stands in the center of the room in front of the mirrors, crossing her hands behind her back. Once her fingers lace together, the kids all stop talking and move into their spots. I can tell she runs the classes based on respect. She smiles lightly at the students before greeting them. They greet her back, calling her Misses Binx. She leads them through a series of stretches then starts reviewing them on a dance they'd apparently been working on before. I know from watching her dance with Malfoy at the ball that she could dance very well but watching her now is amazing, even just teaching children. She moves with grace and ease that is usually unseen when hanging around her daily. I remember her tripping over flat surfaces and falling off of everything. I catch her eye at one point and I can see the joy reflected in them. Dancing may have been forced on her but I can tell she loves it. About thirty minutes later when they take a small break, I leave to return to George. When I walk in, he immediately drops the broom he was holding and leans across the counter to hear what happened. I roll my eyes at him and prop up the broom before sitting on the counter.
"It was her. She refused to really acknowledge me, telling me to join a class or leave. I hugged her and apologized and she finally spoke to me. She walked out of the Burrow and came up with the idea to open a dance studio to pay off her guardians before she turns seventeen. She didn't want to go back to Hogwarts to deal with Malfoy and didn't want to stay because of me. She told me she will come by in half an hour when her class ends, and if she doesn't show up, we get to kidnap her."
"How did she get the money to open a studio? And how much does she owe?" He asks.
"I imagine from her vault at Gringott's. She owes four thousand galleons."
"Merlin's beard! That's a lot of money."
I nod and get down from the counter, picking up a rag to wipe off the windows.

Thirty minutes pass and Lucy hasn't shown up yet. We wait twenty more minutes before we leave to kidnap her. I walk along the street with George and the closer we get to the studio, the worst the feeling in my stomach grows. I voice my thoughts to George who nods in agreement. I pull the door open because the lights are still on inside and step in. No one is on the dance floor but I can hear signs of struggle upstairs. I dash through the studio and back to the stair case, my brother rushing along behind me. When I reach the landing I pause for a moment, heart pounding, and locate the sound of the struggle. I slam the door open and find Lucy fighting with a hooded man. They both turn at my entrance and the man latches onto her, disapparating in a loud crack. My heart sinks to my stomach again and I hit my knees. She's gone again.
A few weeks later we got an owl from Lee. I stopped working on the shop to give the owl a treat and read the letter. I read it several times over and over to make sure I'm seeing it correctly before dropping everything and running up the stairs, shouting for my brother. Breathlessly, I hand it off to George so he can read it. I watch him scan it several times before looking at me.
"She's at Hogwarts again?"
"Apparently."
"One of the families must have mentioned it to the Addams' and they realized it was her. She's back with Malfoy now." George says.
My heart hurts at the sound of her being with Malfoy. It's taking all of my willpower not to break back into Hogwarts and steal her away.
