Hey. I'm Stevie. This is the story of how I died. Kidding. I'm still alive. I was told I had to help write this so I'm gonna try my best, and I will not do spoilers like Ava did. I hate spoilers, and I punched her when she spoiled stuff in her first paragraph. Anyways. I guess I'm the romantic of the group. I've had a boyfriend the longest. Because of my boyfriend we all found out about our powers, or what our guy friends were. But also because of me an ancient feud may have caused a war, but we ended it. Dang it! I just spoiled something. Bad Stevie. I'm going to tell the story now.
I smiled and waved at Danni and Polly as they walked towards their cars in the school parking lot. "See you tomorrow." Kim pulled up to the school in her black minivan and let her little brother, Kenny, out of the van. He was going to be in eighth grade this year! As he walked passed me he patted me on the head, "Hello, Kim friend." He walked into the school and across the commons to the junior high boys locker room. Ava and Barry were coming back up the school parking lot, along with her boyfriend Chad. They had just finished cross country practice. I walked up to Kim's van and climbed in the front seat. She was on her phone. "Sup?" She asked without looking up from the screen.
"Working in the field today?" I asked her.
She smiled, "How can you tell?"
"Tight tank top, tye-dye bandanna, and your bare feet are covered in mud." She looked down at the mud squishing between her toes and smiled. "Why aren't you wearing shoes to drive?"
She shrugged and reached into the back seat. "Strawberry?" She pulled out an ice cream pail full of strawberries. "Since last night the plants have been going crazy. Since I-"
"Since the attack?" I interrupted. "You had some type of plant powers, maybe that's why they're going crazy. Even though you don't believe in that stuff." Kim got really quiet. I took a strawberry and ate it. "Holy crap these are good."
"Swear jar." She mumbled without looking up. There was a honk in front of her van. We both looked up, and Dixon, Davis, and Jim were climbing out of Dixon's truck. Dixon waved at me. I waved back as they walked up to the van. I climbed back out and turned to Dixon, "So Lilli's house at 10:30? She told us in the car on our way home."
Dixon nodded, "We've got football practice till then, so that's the earliest that will work." He looked in the van and hit the top, "You need to be there too."
"Why Lilli's at 10:30?" Kim poked her head out the door.
"To talk about the battle, your training, and to figure out what you, Macy and Gracie are." Jim said, looking at Kim. He noticed her tight tank top then turned around and walked inside. "I'm going inside. It's too hot out."
Davis smiled at Jim's back as he walked away. "Sure. That's why. Because the air is too hot." Without turning around Jim flipped Davis off. Dixon and I laughed. Davis smiled and yelled back at him, "You're just confirming what I think by doing that."
Kim looked confused. She confirmed it by saying, "Confuzzed." Dixon and I laughed even harder. Ava walked up with Barry and Chad. "Berry straw?" Kim asked holding up the bucket. Ava and Barry both took one, Chad just looked at her confused.
"Why?" He asked. Kim shrugged and put the bucket in the passenger seat and buckled it in. She then buckled her own seat belt on and locked the doors. "Did you just buckle the strawberries in?" She was acting strange, she always did, but stranger than normal. She looked at Chad and nodded, like it was the most normal thing on the world. "Okay." He shook his head and backed away from the van as she started it.
"You never gave me an answer as to if you can come to Lilli's." Davis asked as she pulled out of the parking space.
Kim looked out her open window and yelled, "Sure. I can come." Davis nodded and turned to walk into the school.
Dixon smiled at me, making butterflies flutter in my stomach, "Got to go before Coach gets upset. Bye." He squeezed my hand and jogged off to catch up with Davis. I sat with Ava, Barry, and Chad in the bed of Ava's pickup truck.
"What are you doing at Lilli's?" Chad asked Ava.
"What we usually do. Play video games, make each other blanket burritos." She pointed at me, "She's gonna tackle Kim to the ground at least once." Ava said laughing.
I nodded, "This is all very accurate."
Barry didn't look surprised at all, but Chad got extremely confused. "Why do you. What?" He tried to ask. We all just shrugged. He didn't hang out with us enough to understand how strange our sleepovers can get. Especially since from now on I was pretty sure they were going to include some kind of magic. Like, I don't know, someone waking up drenched, because apparently my powers were water. I smiled at the evil thought. "You guys are weird. And I will never understand you." Chad said shaking his head.
"And that's the way we like to keep it. Right Stevie?" Ava said defiantly. I nodded and Barry laughed at his confusion.
"What's going on here?" Talya walked up. "A party?" She had a huge fake smile on her face. We all detested her. She had perfect brown hair, perfect makeup, all the teachers loved her, and everything, especially sports, came way too easy for her. The one thing she didn't have was loyal friends. One of her "best" friends sat with us half the time in classes because she hated her. Barry and I immediately stopped laughing. Chad smiled at her and asked if she wanted to get in the truck with them. "Well okay. If you insist." She waved her hand and played with her hair that was somehow perfect after running four miles.
I noticed her get all buddy buddy with Chad, which made me mad. No one messed with my friends, or their boyfriends. "Don't you think we should be getting home? I mean, we all have chores to do?" I asked.
I Talya jumped off of the bed of the truck and smiled at Chad. "Well. You might, but I don't. See you tomorrow Chad." She cast a flirtatious wave at Chad then added, "You too Barry and Ava." Chad walked away to his car across the parking lot. I narrowed my eyes at Talya, and a small jet of water shot out of my hand as I reached for my water bottle. It hit Talya in the butt, but she didn't notice. Ava, Barry and I stifled a laugh as she climbed into her car unknowingly. I turned to Ava as Talya drove away and climbed into the front seat of Ava's truck so she could drive me home. I burst out laughing when Ava climbed into the car and I saw her face.
