Chapter Twenty Seven

The Socs came closer, as if they were walls, I was scary.

"Now now doll, don't be scared.. We just want a kiss." One of the guys said and took out some switch blades. "And maybe a piece of your hair" he finished, creepy much, I spoke up.

"No jazz before the rumble!" I said, loudly, hoping if Two and Darry heard them they would be over, but that wasn't garented

"Awe so your Greasers? That gives me an even bigger reason to cut you up good babes~" he said with lust painted in his voice, I blushed and I couldn't believe what I was doing. Mitch looks disgusted as we backed into the wall before someone left hooked the Soc, causing the rest to go running, we looked to see Two and Darry, we ran a hugged them, scared a little.

We got Pony and Angela and drove back to the Curtis house and it was getting high time to get ready for the rumble, Mitch and I just had our normal clothes on but we put our hair up in buns, we knew how the Socs played, they played dirty, we planned ahead. Sky came over in a pair of black ripped jeans and a red mussel top. May wore blue jeans and a white tee. Hailey and Neda came to the house to get ready as well. Brooke, Maddie, Gil and Amber got ready and Angela talked to Ponyboy, smilin and such, I wasn't sure if I should tell Darry or Soda about Pony's condition, poor kid really wanted to participate but he was exhausted. I sighed but went back to getting ready, by the time we where done we all headed out, Soda and Steve chanted the whole way there.

We eventually reached the vacant lot, we waited for the Socs to show up. There was a few guys looking and us as if they had a dirty trick up there sleeve.

"Bringing girls to the rumble? That's low, even for you guys" Paul, an old friend of Darry's I guessed, they weren't very friendly towards each other though.

"We may be girls but we can kick your ass" Sky barked, some Socs smirked, just about to started when Dal showed up.

"A RUMBLE AIN'T A RUMBLE WITHOUT ME" He screamed, causing Darry to look towards Dally, earning a punch in the face from Paul, that's when shit went down.

Five minutes in we heard a scream, a gun shot, I was knocking down a Soc when I saw Hailey... No...

Dally's POV

I looked over at Hailey and nearly lost my head, the Socs didn't respect the rules and now, she been shot, her screaming was all I could hear... She looked so helpless.. I picked her up and ran down the hill, they wouldn't give up I knew it... I got in bucks car , he gave me a spare set of keys and took off down the road, she was crying real hard and I felt myself, actually cry...

"It's going to be okay" I told her, she clucked her side and cried harder.

"Make the pain stop" she cried "God damn it make it stop!" She yelled as we pulled up to the hospital, I ran in and he crying was enough to get three nurses to grab her and take her to the operation room... I nearly lost it, I walked back and forth in the waiting room.

"Dallas Winston?" The nurse called out, everyone in the waiting room looked at me in shock, I walked up to the nurse. "Hailey can go home tonight in an hour or so, she's stable... They used an ice bullet and it melted, we patched her up, luckily it only went a centimetre into the skin" she said, I sighed in relief and walked to her room. She smiled weakly, I sighed and kissed her.

"God you scared the shit out of me" I said, digging my head in her neck, I could feel hot tears touch my forehead.

"I'm sorry" she croaked weakly, my eyes widened. "On no babe don't be sorry" I grasped her hands. "I was afraid I would lose you" I sighed, she smiled as I kissed her again. "I'll be back soon, I'm going to pick Pony and Neda up so they can see how Johnny is doing" I said she nodded, she drifted off into a deep sleep.

Amber's POV

The socs played it their way but in the end we won I smiled, Hailey was going to get out tonight, I got a call from Dal to tell me. Neda and Pony walked onto the street and then got picked up by Dally, bot were we bruised up.

Neda's POV

I sat it the back seat of Buck's car. We sped down the road when all of a sudden.. We get pulled over! Great! The cop came up to us and Dally rolled down his window after telling us to play along. I laid down, motionless except for breathing slightly. Pony laid against his seat, breathing slowly.

"Where are you going?" The cop asked.

"These two got really banged up, I'm taking them to the hospital" Dal replied, The officer looked at pony before looking at me and driving away on his motorcycle. We got to the hospital in five minutes. We got directed to Johnny's room and went there.

"16 years ain't gonna be long enough man" Johnny sobbed, I kissed his forehead, tears draining from my eyes.. I just didn't know what to do. Johnny kissed me slowly. He pulled away, quickly, yet slowly dying.

"Stay Gold" he said as his heart monitor went blank, Dally sobbed a little.

"So this is what you get for helping people?" He asked "come on Johnny wake up" he sobbed, grabbing onto the bed. "Please Johnny" he cried again, before standing up and running out, I looked at Johnny. Ponyboy walked out, I could tell he was crying too.

I wanted to leave too but I couldn't, my eyes were glued on Johnny's motionless figure. He was dead.. Johnny Cade, the boy who was afraid of his own shadow, was dead. I gripped the bed and let out a sob. I couldn't stand it... Tears fell down by cheeks and on to his cold flesh, I cried, my sobs over lapping each other.

Hailey's POV

I walked out of the operation room to see Dally, I wanted to say something yet, I just followed him.., where was he going?
