              (March 15, 2012)

Kenzy walks up to me in the lawn chair out front. "Mom says you need to watch me out here," she says.

"Got it," I say as I roll my eyes.

She starts playing her ball.

I will never forget that damn ball.

I kept reading my book. She kicked the ball and it hit my chair. "Go kick that thing somewhere else will ya?"

"Jeez, you and your books, she says and she kicks the ball out of the lawn and into the street.

"Aliciaaaa..." she said in a pleading tone.

"No way, you kicked it, you go get it."

Kenzy groaned and went to go get the ball. It all happened so fast. I saw the car coming and got up.

"Kenzy don't walk back."

"What?" she yells walking back.

"KENZY!! WAT-" but it was too late. Kenzy's ball flew out of her hands and landed in front of my feet. That once baby blue ball was now partly splotched in crimson.

I screamed in horror as my mom rushed outside.

"What happened Alicia?"

I broke out into a sob.

"WHAT HAPPENED ALICIA?!?" my mother yelled.

I couldn't form words, so I pointed out to the street where Kenzy's body laid. She looks out  and lets out a scream.

She runs out into the street and grabs Kenzy's lifeless body.

"Somebody, help me!" she yelled. Tears kept streaming down her face.

"Alicia? Hellooo," says detective Olivia Rollens snapping me out of my daze.

"Sorry, zoned out. What's up?" I ask.

"Chief wants a word with you."

He always wants a word with me, if not that, then a burrito or a box of doughnuts. Strange he is still incredibly muscular and in shape.

"Got it."

I get up and walk briskly to his office. I'm in front of his door with his name on the front: Chief David Lewis. I knock on the brown wooden door.

"Come in."

I come in and sit down in one of his cushioned chairs.

"You wanted a word with me, sir?"

"Yes... how are you today?

"Considering its 9:15 in the morning, I guess fine."

He chuckled. "You sure?"

"Positive."

"Nothing out of the ordinary?"

"'Out of the ordinary' is not a phrase in my personal dictionary."

Where is he getting at with all these questions?

I slouch a little in my chair.
