Aria felt awfully anxious getting ready for dinner with Jason, she wasn't sure what to expect, she knew nothing will go back to normal and only having 2 days before leaving for New York she haven't got enough time to make mends. She hates the way Jason reacted to the fact she doesn't want him to sacrifice his career and give up on his life in Rosewood just for her, she meant well...
Jason had another idea though. He assumed that going to this dinner is due to Aria having a change of heart and knowing they should live together. They would have eventually move in and do the whole serious-relationship-acting-like-a-married-couple business. He knew he was being a bit unreasonable and it was a big step which Aria is probably afraid of making, however in this case he knew what he wanted, it was having Aria all to himself, and he won't give up!
During the dinner, Jason and Aria avoided the subject to begin with, they knew they were better off smoothing the atmosphere with a few laughs and compliments. Ordering Lemon cake made both of their hearts loop, that is their significant dessert. They ended up looking like two teenagers on their first date, their hands were getting clammy, blushes were evident on their faces and relieving their first date was rather bitter sweet considering what life had in store for them.
"thanks you for inviting me by the way" Aria said at last trying to bring up the argument.
Jason looked slightly confused "what?". He had no idea what she was referring to, all he knew was that Alison has told him Aria wanted to meet up and she advised him to dress to impress. To think about it, this makes perfect sense, Emily and Alison meddling in their relationship was a more than obvious thing that he was oblivious to. Regardless of how they happened to be here n the first place, they both decided it was a good idea to talk things through.
"so how about i just come to New york with you?" Jason asked but the expression on Aria's face said more than the words could. He was quite hurt, but he knew what and who he was fighting for.
"i don't think it's a good idea Jace" Aria said softly.
"well i'm not giving up on us that easily" Jason said with pain in his voice. She detected that he wasn't happy with the way things were going.
"look we can still be together I just don't want you to resent me if anything goes wrong" She tried to explain.
"You really don't care, do you?" Jason sneakered bitterly.
Aria denied it "that's not true and you know it" but Jason walked off before he could finish off her sentence.Jason couldn't take it anymore, he didn't like being that whiny boyfriend who needs constant attention, but he knew for well that long distance relationships never work, just like his parents they would grow apart and that would be the end of it. It's hard to maintain a healthy relationship when you're miles and miles away from each other. He also knew how Aria gets, she loses herself in her work and there could be an earthquake and a tsunami happening just outside her window and she wouldn't notice, and Jason didn't want her to sacrifice her work duties to facetime him every time he's feeling lonely or saw a funny looking dog on a street. Therefore he decided to space himself and learn to let go before it's too late.
Aria ran after Jason instinctively. "Let's talk Jason, please I love you" she called out desperately.
Jason turned around to face her one last time, "I will support you no matter what so how about we just stay friends ?" what he actually meant was he will gradually stop talking if it becomes too hard. His whole life is a story of unfortunate events and the hope of fighting for Aria disappeared when reality of the situation hit him.
