Beth knew exactly what she had to do. She walked over to Ashley, putting on her "interested best friend" face.
"Soooo, are you and Chris a thing?"
Ashley shrugged, blushing.
"No, not yet."
"Okay,"
As Beth walked away, she made sure Ashley was deep in conversation with Sam before making her move.
"Hey Chris," she said. "Can we talk? Alone?"
"Sure."
Chris followed her into the other room.
"Chris, I want your help," said Beth flirtatiously.
"What?"
"I want to kill Ashley,"
Chris' eyebrows raised in shock and he started backing towards the door.
"Ashley?" he called outside.
Right when bet beard the door start to open, Beth leaned in and kissed Chris. He seemed to be surprised for a moment, then pushed Beth off of him. But not before Ash had stormed off into the cold forest.
"You psycho." Chris said, before charging after Ashley.Ashley didn't even consider the fact that she was most likely going to her death. All she could think of was Chris. He said he liked, maybe even loved her, yet as soon as Beth comes along, he changes his mind? Ashley knows that if a guy does something like that, they don't deserve you. If this was true, then why was her heart hurting so badly?
Ashley stopped when she heard someone calling her name from a bit behind her. It was Chris. When he saw she had saw him, his jog quickly became a sprint, as if he was trying to protect her from some unknown evil. Even after thinking that, Ashley's mind did not go to the Wendigos.
"Ashley, she kissed me, I promise."
Ashley stared at her feet.
"I pushed her off and ran out here to find you. If I really wanted to hurt you," his voice cracked on the 'hurt.'
"then I would still be in there with Beth,"Ashley thought to herself a moment. The story seems logical, except for Beth is supposed to be a nice person, right? But then again, so is Chris. She looked up into Chris' eyes. They were filled with worry and hope at the same time. She leaned into his chest and let him wrap his arms around her. All was forgiven, and both of them knew.
The two stayed there in peace for a second, until Chris remembered the threat at hand.
"Ashley, we have to get back to the lodge, the Wendigos."
Ashley nodded and let Chris lead her back to the lodge. That's when they heard a loud shriek from behind them. The two slowly turned around. A Wendigo was bounding towards them. Chris grabbed Ashley's hand and dragged her towards the lodge.
They were almost there when a boney hand grabbed Ashley jacket and sent her flying backwards. She landed in the snow with a groan.
Chris glanced up at the Wendigo before him for less than a second before running to Ashley's aid. He started to pull her up by her hand when he noticed how her foot had landed. She had probably broken her ankle. Chris sighed, but then lifted her up bridal style and made his way back to the lodge.
Chris sprinted back to the lodge. He was literally on the deck, about to open the door, when the Wendigo grabbed him by his foot, knocking him over. Everything seemed to be going in slow motion, but he knew what he had to do.
Ashley cried out as the Wendigo knocked Chris over. Chris looked her in the face and said,
"Ashley, please don't forget, I love you, okay?"
"Chris, I love you too, but what are you-"
That's when Chris let go of Ashley, and let the Wendigo drag him away.
"Go!" He yelled. "Get inside!"
Tears rolling down Ashley's face, she grabbed the doorknob and let herself back into the lodge. She shut the door and locked it behind her, knowing with a heartbreaking certainty that Chris wouldn't be coming back anytime soon.Ashley saw a broom in the room she was in, and decided to use that as a crutch. She slowly walked towards the exit of the room. But then, for just one moment, she turned and looked through the glass doors. There was nothing there except for a path in the snow where Chris was dragged away. She left the room in silence.
As soon as Ashley entered the main room, she started to feel angry. Not just frustrated, but really really angry. Beth had sent us out there, and she did it intentionally. Ashley's fists clenched by her sides. She thought Beth had liked them, but apparently she was wrong.
Ashley charged into the main room where everyone was talking.
"You!" She said angrily, pointing a shaky finger towards Beth. She wasn't able to hold in the tears in her eyes.
"It's your fault!" Ashley tried to wipe the tears from her face.
"What?" asked Beth, a "confused" expression covering her face.
"Chris is dead because of you!"
As soon as Ashley said that, all faces turned to Beth. But those faces weren't quick enough to see the small smile on Beth's face after Ashley's declaration. Luckily for Ashley, Beth couldn't muster a sad or scared expression.
"Beth," asked Sam, "is this true?"
Beth slowly shook her head.
"Beth," asked Mike.
"Are you lying to us?"
Beth didn't move. She truly felt no guilt, but she wasn't a very good actress.Ashley burst out sobbing after Mike's question. Beth couldn't even pretend to be sad after she had basically killed Chris! She thought Beth had forgiven her. She had thought wrong.
