Chapter 6 ~ Another Nightmare

I awoke to my alarm blaring Zombie by Bad Wolves. I turned it off and rolled over remembering that my mother didn't want me to go to school today. I spent the next few restless minuets in bed then decided to text Alice and tell her to bring my work home for me and not to bother coming over this morning. Just as I sent the message, I heard the shower kick on. I walked to the closed bathroom door and pressed my ear up against the wood. The shower was defiantly on. I opened the door up and steam hit me in the face. Coughing, I walked in the bathroom to turn the water off. As my hand touched the scorching metal, I screamed and pulled it back and held it against my chest. I looked around the bathroom for something to use to turn the water off with. I looked over at my sink and found a wash cloth and grabbed it. I turned the water off with it and went to open my little window and turn on the fan then I left.

I ran down to the kitchen and turned the sink on cold and stuck my burning hand under the icy water and sighed. I heard the front door open and Alice appeared a few seconds later.

"Didn't you get my text?" I asked, turning off the water and grabbing a towel and carefully drying my still burning hand.

"Yes," she said, holding up her phone. "Why aren't you coming to school today? Are you okay?" She looked concerned.

I sighed again. "Mom just doesn't want me to go today. And I'm not feeling that well anyways," I lied

"Why doesn't she want you to go?"

"I started to get sick last night and she wants to make sure im fine before I go out," I lied again.

She stepped closer, "But you look fine." She held out her hand to feel my forehead and I jerked away.

"It's just a small cold, that's all," I fake coughed into the towel for effect.

She seemed to buy it because all she said was, "Okay, I'll be over later with everything. See you, Sis. Love you."

"Love you, too," I called after her as she walked out of the door. I sighed again when I heard the door click shut. I hated lying to her but I had no choice. I looked at my hand and winced. It was all red and blisters were starting to form. I went down into the basement and got some herbs to clear the burn. I was mixing the herbs when I heard a crash up stairs. I jumped and dropped the mortar and pestle and ran up the stairs to check it out. I ran into the living room and saw glass all over the floor. I gasped and turned to run back into the basement but ran into something, or someone, big and hard. I looked up to see salt and pepper hair and honey eyes. I gasped and my eyes widened.

Sage.

He smiled and and grabbed each of my arms. I went to scream but in one swift movement my back was to his chest, one arm over my chest, and his hand was over my mouth, muffling my cries for help.

"Shut up," he growled. I stopped, for fear of what he would do. "Good girl," he said. I felt his lips brush against my neck and I gasped. "You are such a beautiful young witch," he breathed. I closed my eyes, tears streaming down my face and his hand. He moved the hand on my arm across my chest and rested it on my other arm. He breathed in deep and sighed. "I'm going to let go of your mouth now. If you scream, I will not hesitate to kill you now. Do you understand?" he whispered maliciously in my ear. I nodded my head and he let go of my mouth and gripped my other arm, pressing me closer to his chest.

I took a deep breath in and steeled myself. "What are you doing here?" I whispered. I heard him chuckle darkly.

"I'm very jealous of someone. You know very well of whom I speak of. But I no longer have to worry about him, he's out of the picture now." He brushed a strand of hair behind my ear and brushed his lips against my neck again. I shivered in disgust.

"What did you do with him?" I demanded between clenched teeth.

"Now why would I tell you that? You may want to go find him." I could hear the smile in his voice. He was having too much fun with this. I felt him tense and he whipped his head to the window. "I have to go now, my love. But I will be back," he whispered against my shoulder. He was gone as fast as he came.

I fainted.

When I awoke on the couch, Alice was at my side. I felt something cold on my forehead and reached up to grab it. It was a cold rag.

Alice looked up at me and gasped. "Mom, she's awake!" she yelled. I groaned and tried to sit up.

"What happ-" I was cut off by Alice pushing me back down.

"Shhh, it's okay, Alex. I came by like I always do to find you in the living room passed out with glass everywhere. Are you okay?"

I grabbed my head and pushed myself up into a sitting position. My head was pounding. I was trying to remember what happened before I woke up but coming up with nothing. My mother walked into the room and sat down next to me. I leaned over and put my head in my hands.

I nodded slightly and sighed. "I don't remember what happened. How did I end up down here?"

"What do you mean you don't remember what happened?" Alice asked. "Tell us what you remember."

I sighed again. "Okay. I remember waking up then rolling back over and going back to sleep. A few minuets later, I texted you, then went down to get something to eat but I burned my hand so I put it under the water." I pointed to Alice. "You came in and asked me if I was okay. I said I was a little sick but I was fine. You left and ..." I scrunched my brow in concentration, "And ..." I sighed. "That's where it stops." I didn't tell them about the shower being on. I looked from Alice to Mother and they looked at each other then back to me.

"Alex," my Mother touched my arm lightly as she spoke, "none of that happened. I was in the basement the whole time, you never came down there. I heard a 'thump' and I rushed up here just as Alice walked through the door. We found you on the floor, out cold."

"You two surely spend a lot of time in the basement ..." Alice said randomly, making me smile.

Mother looked to Alice then back to me. "Maybe you should get ready for school. I think you should go today. I'll bring both of you on my way to work."

I nodded once and motioned for Alice to come with me. She followed me up to my room and sat on the edge of my bed. "Are you really okay?" she asked, a concerned look on her face.

"Mhmm, I'm positive," I replied, smiling back at her as I walked into my closet to grab some clothes and got dressed. I grabbed my bag and we ran back down the stairs and out the door to meet my mother at the car.

"Ready?" she asked, getting into the driver side.

"Yupp," Alice and I said at the same time. I got in the passenger side and she got in the back and we rode to school in silence. The whole day went by in a tiring blur. As soon as I got home, I went up to my room and passed out.
