The next day I did my makeup a bit heavy on the red mark to hide it. Then I left my hair down, since the sides covered the sides of my face.
I left for school before dad woke up and made it to class, nearly breathless. "You okay, Naomi?" Hikaru asked and I looked up and nodded. "Yeah, I'm just really out of shape." I gave a breathless laugh and went to go sit down.
He sat on my right and I felt him staring at my face. "What's that?" He asked and moved his hand to push my hair back, but I moved out of the way and kept it hidden with my white hair. "Nothing." I smiled at him and saw he looked confused, and a little troubled.
Class passed and the Club was just us today, and Hikaru dragged me over to a private corner. "Naomi, why is your face red? What happened? Did you hurt yourself?" He asked and moved my hair over. "Yeah, I tripped while walking in some new heels my mom got me. It was a huge mess." I laughed and rolled my eyes, and he gave me a look that said 'oh really?'
"Hikaru, I'm fine, I swear." I smiled and took his hand that was resting on my cheek, and he nodded and walked away, dropping my hand.
"Now, what really happened?" Kyoya came over and gazed down at me. "I tripped. That's it." I shrugged. "You tripped and fell on your face? Very believable for a gullible person." He said with slight amusement.
"Okay, fine. It was my dad." I whispered very softly and his face shifted. "You can't do anything about it, so just drop it, okay?" I said and he sighed. "Naomi, you know I have to do something about this. Contact authorities, arrest him, the lot." He said and I shook my head. "No. If you do that, he'll know I told." I hissed and he stared at me.
"You really don't know how this stuff works, huh? Let's put it this way, snitches get stitches. You tell what happened, you get hurt. Bad." I said and he bit his lip and nodded. "I see. But you see, I can offer you protection. You and your mother." He said and I sighed.
"You'd need to talk with her about that. I can't make decisions on my own." I said and he nodded. "We'll be in touch." He nodded and walked away.
I then got a text telling me to come to practice, so I left.
"Right, the singer we had for Science Fiction and the Science Fiction reprise is going to be out due to pregnancy, so Naomi, you'll just be singing that offstage as we play the lip footage, okay?" The director said, and I nodded. "We're rehearsing that now. Do you need lines?" He asked and I shook my head, stepping up to a mic.
I heard the music and started singing.
"Michael Rennie was ill the day the earth stood still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear
Claude Raines was the invisible man
Then something went wrong for Fay Wray and King Kong
They got caught in a celluloid jam
Then at a deadly pace it came from outer space
