The next day was Sunday, and mom was working because she just worked nonstop, so Juni and I hired a babysitter and we went to get clothes for tomorrow's court date. I was going to miss a whole fucking day for an hour or so court session. And so was Kyoya.
We went and got Juni his suit first and then went to a girl's store and I found a skirt and a blazer and some Louboutins for cheap, so of course I got them.
We went home and I awaited the next day when I got up and dressed and kept mymyself professional. We had hired another babysitter and mom, Juni, and I left for the courthouse, and I met Kyoya outside.
"Naomi." He greeted me with a smile. "Hey, Kyoya." I smiled at him and said hi to his father. We went in and waited until we were called. When we were, we moved into the courtroom and there was even an audience and a jury. Two police officers brought my dad out and he sat at the desk opposite of my mom and Kyoya's dad. I was seated in the front row of the audience next to Kyoya and Juni.
The judge came out and started the session, and named off all the charges that were against my dad. Child abuse and neglect, domestic abuse, public drunkenness, drug counts, and disruption of the peace, so basically a lot of fighting.
I was glad to hear he was looking up to about sixteen years in jail. They called my mom and Juni to the stand, and I knew it was a matter of time before I was called as well.
"I call next to the stand, Yagami Kioshi Naomi." Our lawyer called and I stood and walked up there and swore to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Then I took my seat.
"Mr. Yagami -" "Female, please." I bit my lip, hoping that wasnt too rude of me ro interrupt. "Ms. Yagami, apologies. You pressed charges against your father three weeks ago?" "Yes." "What charges did you press?" "Child abuse and neglect and domestic abuse." I said. "And what is the outcome you wish to see?" He asked. "Maximum time in jail, restraining orders from my mother and I, and extermination of parental rights." I answered.
"Why did you press those charges?" He asked. "That man constantly beat and put down my mother and I when he was married to her. That's very wrong and I've yet to see him pay for those actions. When he randomly moved back in with us about five weeks ago, and resumed his violent tendencies, I couldn't help but act out." I said. "And how did you act?" He asked. "I told my best friend, Ootori Kyoya, about the situation, and he helped me take care of it, finally leading to his arrest three weeks ago." I nodded.
"Do you hate your father?" He asked. "I do." I nodded. "Why?" He asked and I was silent for a few seconds. "How could I not? Most of my childhood was witnessing him overpower my mother until she was crying and bloody on the kitchen floor. I had many sleepless nights being too scared to sleep because I couldn't get her screams out of my head. I was in constant fear that he was going to come in my room and try to do things with me. He finally went away when I was twelve, and he took Juni with him, and those were four peaceful years, until he came back again, and it went right back to the normal chaos I was so used to." I said.
"Why did he move away when you were twelve?" He asked. "I came out as transgender when I was twelve. I was a boy at the time, but I felt feminine. I figured out that I felt wrong and found out what I could do to make myself feel more like who I should really be. My mom was supportive of me, and Juni accepted it, but he never accepted me or stood by my side. So he left when I started wearing skirts and dresses and feeling okay about myself." I said, glaring at him.
"And you've had your surgery, haven't you?" He asked and I nodded. "I have." I smiled a little. "Did he beat you during your transistion?" He asked and I nodded. "And I was told you took pictures of the marks he left?" He asked and I nodded and he clicked a little button for pictures to appear on the screen. I recognised myself and parts of me in them and all the bruises and scratches and blood in them.
"Are these the pictures you took of markings on your body?" He asked and I nodded. "Yes, they are." I said and glanced to the jury, most of them were angry or sad. "Thank you, miss Yagami." He said and I stepped down from the stand.
I sat back in my seat and Kyoya put his hand on my arm for a bit of comfort. The jury went to talk it out for a few minutes, then came back.
"Has the jury reached a verdict?" The judge asked. "Yes, your honour. The verdict is unanymous. We find the defendent guilty as charged." They said and I sighed a sigh of relief.
"I charge you guilty, seventeen years in jail." The judge said and I smiled and hid my face in my hands. Juni hugged one side of me and Kyoya hugged the other.
Thank the Gods.
