I went to school the next day and at the Club, we didn't have any customers, and Hikaru still kept me close. I was on the couch, looking over my lines. I hummed along and tapped my finger to the songs I was supposed to sing.
I had my legs crossed up on the sofa and was leaning on Hikaru as he talked to Haruhi and Kaoru. "I don't know what I was thinking. There's no sense in girlish dreaming. I'm just seventeen. Seventeen. And it's better than forty." I whispered to the tune of the song and tried to figure out what key the second seventeen was in.
"You're sixteen." Hikaru said. "It's the song. Shilo is seventeen." I hummed back. "What fucking key is that? I can't figure it out." I huffed, getting up and going over to the piano and playing it out, mouthing along the words.
"I'm just seventeen. Seventeen... fuck, no. That's not it..." I huffed and tried again. Tamaki came over. "Need help?" "Yep. I can't figure out the stupid fucking key for this stupid fucking line that's only one stupid fucking word long." I said.
"Sing it to me." He said and I sighed and rolled my eyes, starting at Nathan's part.
"Your mother's death taught me to accept
That nothing ever lasts in this world.
Foolish dreams can destroy
A grown man.
What chance has a seventeen year old girl?"
Then I moved onto mine/Shilo's lines.
"I don't know what I was thinking.
There's no sense in girlish dreaming.
I'm just seventeen.
Seventeen.
And it's better than forty!"
I snapped the last line and sighed. "I can't figure out what that second seventeen is supposed to be. I want it to be higher than the first, but I know it isn't and I can't do that..." I huffed.
"Well, seems to me like that key is lower than the first." He said and reached over to the piano and played it out. It sounded alright. "Okay, that seems right. Thanks, senpai." I said and he patted my shoulder and walked away and I crossed my legs as I sat at the piano bench.
I ran through all that I could and wrote down little side notes of what to do and studied them until I was ready to smash my head on the piano keys.
