CHAPTER 16

"You are never too old to start a new goal or to dream a new dream."

-C.S Lewis

Riley's POV

"Riley, let me introduce you to Mr Mathews. Remember what I told you this morning? He was kind enough to accept our invitation to dinner." Aunt Susan fluttered her eyelashes and clumsily poured red wine into Andrew's glass, half of which spilled on the table.

"CLAUDIA! WHY AREN'T YOU EVER HERE WHEN I NEED YOU?" she screamed. Her face looking like an anime.

A petite brunette came running from the kitchen, fear evident in her eyes. Who is she and why haven't I seen her here before? She immediately brought a cloth and began wiping the mess, apologizing every second. Meanwhile Andrew struggled to make eye contact with me as I froze on my spot.

"I'm sorry, she's new." She apologized to him and he simply smiled. "Claudia, by now you should be able to do everything without me telling you to do so, shouldn't you?" Claudia nodded, pushing her perfect locks behind her ear. She doesn't look like a maid to me. Model maid perhaps, the kind they make romance stories on.

"Now go." Aunt Susan said, without meeting her eyes. Claudia disappeared in a blink. Skills.

"Oh, come on you. Have a seat. I specially told them to make your favourite pink pasta with extra cheese and bacon today." She winked, eying the empty seat beside Andrew. I took the seat opposite to him and immediately regretted it. Sitting beside is better than sitting opposite. At least you can avoid eye contact with dignity. Besides what will they think knowing that I know him already? I'm not someone who goes around hawking guys on the internet. Oh god mom is definitely going to think that we're dating. What will I even say to him? It's nice to see you in person but I hope we met in a different way?

I started eating, not wasting a single second. Best way to avoid speaking. With my fifth bite of bacon, I saw that he was staring me like a hawk. I could literally feel his intense gaze choking my oesophagus. With my eyes, I signalled him to eat. He smirked but agreed.

I don't care whether there is a hot guy in front of me. Food comes first. Always.

Halfway through the meal, my phone beamed with a text from him.

"It's nice to finally meet you again. Never expected such an intriguing business dinner. I must say you look more beautiful when you aren't around kids."

I didn't even remember what I wore. I glimpsed at my yellow sweater and baby pink wrap coat. Then I looked at his tuxedo and sighed. Guys don't even need efforts to look good.
