"Come on, hurry up!"

I toss a glare over my shoulder, but Lee isn't looking at me. He's staring out the high window, his shoulders tense.

"I can't reach the buttons!" My face flames as I make the addmission, but Lee doesn't seem to notice. He just sighs frustratedly and comes to my side. His swift, elegant fingers do up the white dress easily, and I stare at my hands, hating myself for being this weak. The fact that I trust him doesn't mean he's not my enemy, and we're not out of this trouble yet, anyway.

The soldiers are catching up fast, so Lee and I got the idea to disguise ourselves as shrine-goers. I don't even know who this shrine is to, but we found clothes that fit us reasonably well in a closet, so it doesn't matter.

Well- the dress fits me, sort of. It's too tight, but that's all right. This won't be for long. The white robe that Lee is draped in, however, looks like a tent on his lean frame, and I resist the urge to laugh. He glares at me.

"We don't have time for fun! They're coming!"

"I know that!"

I glare at him some more, but he just grabs my hand and pulls me from the little room, into the main one. "We have to blend, Kara."

I know! I want to shout it at him, but I don't. I just pull the gauzy veil low over my blue eyes, hiding my face. Lee takes my arm and we walk to the front of the shack-like place to stand before an altar. A woman spirit stands on it, dressed in flowing white. Her painted eyes glow white as well, and I wonder if she's the spirit of healing.

I'd rather she be the spirit of luck, but no matter who this shrine is to I'm praying that she'll help us get out of this alive.

I don't want to die not knowing who I am.

I won't die- I won't let myself. I don't know how I'll stop it, but I will. I don't care what I have to do, I won't let them take me.

And I won't let them hurt Lee.

Zuko tried not to stare at Kara as they stood before the altar. The spirit on it looked familiar to Zuko, but he couldn't place her. Something about hope, he thought, though why that would be he didn't know.

All he knew was that Kara was standing next to him in a very tight dress, and from the looks of her she would burst out of it at any moment. It left nothing to his imagination, and the fire prince had to clench his fists and glare up into the spirit's painted, glowing eyes to keep himself from grabbing the waterbender and kissing her senseless.

Now was not the time for him to give in to an attack of lust!

Especially not with her. She was Katara for Agni's sake! She was the Avatar's friend, and Zuko's enemy. His opposite.

But that, somehow, didn't stop him being almost unbearably aware of her standing beside him, her cool hands gripping his arm tightly.

Her chocolate tresses flowed down her back, brushing her hips delicately, and he wondered what she'd look like dressed in only her hair. Then he cursed himself, digging his nails into his palms.

They were hiding for their lives! He should not be having these pointless thoughts! But the prince of the Fire Nation was used to getting what he wanted, close to when he wanted it. And he wanted Kara in that moment, wanted her bad.

But he forced himself to calm down, using a trick his Uncle had taught him, dampening his inner fire, lowering his body temperature, and calming the beating of his heart. His hands slowly unfisted, and he breathed deeply, in and out, in and out, until he could think properly again.

That had been close, too close! He had to remember that the fiesty waterbender was a means to an end, his captive, even if she didn't know it.

Zuko felt a little bad for that- after all she'd given him her trust, and he was going to betray her.

But his honor was more important than one Water Tribe girl's feelings! He was the crown prince of the Fire Nation, for Agni's sake, and he deserved to be at his father's side, being groomed to take his rightful place as Firelord.

Kara was his ticket home, his means to get to the Avatar.

He just had to remember that, and everything would be fi-

A sound to his left startled him, and Zuko snapped his head around to see an elderly priest hobble into the room. The man looked at Zuko and Kara and smiled widely.

"Weell! You all weren't supposed to be here till tomorrow! But now's as good as then, I spose! Oh yes, now's as good!"

He chuckled to himself, and Zuko looked at Kara, confused. Her blue eyes were uncertain, and slightly afraid. They were also determined, and Zuko wondered what she was thinking.

He didn't ask, though, because the old man began to speak. The words sounded vaguely familiar to Zuko, just like the spirit seemed familiar, but he couldn't...

And then it hit him like a fireblast.

The words the priest spoke were the Earth Kingdom words of Binding, and the spirit on the altar was the Lady of Hope, the spirit of marriage.

The priest thought that Zuko and Kara were there to be married!

He opened his mouth to stop the man before any real damage could be done, but before he could say a single word, the Earth Kingdom soldiers burst into the little shrine.
