The next morning I drove over to Laila's house to take her and Grace to the mall. We were going to pick out homecoming dresses together. But, only Laila and I will be getting dresses because Grace is 19 and graduated last year. She's been kinda like an older sister to us. Anyway, when I got there they already waiting for my arrival outside. I pulled in her driveway and rolled my window down "Hey get in the car losers." I said before Grace made a fake hurt face.
"Oh! Put on 5 Seconds of Summer because of what happened to Madi..." Laila burst out before I cut her off "I told you nothing happened at the beach it was just a random guy..." I said feeling my face get hot. Laila can't keep a secret from Grace for her life, but hey we're best friends so I guess it wouldn't hurt to tell just one more person... No what am I thinking? I'm not even completely sure if it was him anyway..
We got to the mall with the car ride feeling extremely long due to the awkwardness caused by Laila. I walked into the mall with Grace and Laila trailing behind me. When it comes to the mall I become a track star, but any other time I'm the slowest person in the room. When I passed a group of boys around my age they all turned around and I swear I've seen a few of those boys at my school. Great. Now I have people I know here. I'm not socially awkward or anything I just don't like talking to people from my school because they are all brats, jerks, or weird. With the exception of maybe two or three, including Laila.
I got to the Apple store in record time and I walked straight to the back where they kept the phone cases. Due to being at the beach so often I'm always scared of the waves coming up onto my stuff and damaging my phone. So, I've decided to get a waterproof case. I was looking at a penguin case when the man behind me said "I've always loved penguins." I didn't need to turn around to know exactly who that was.
"Hi Luke. What are you doing in the mall?"
"What? I can't go to the mall now?" He said mocking a hurt expression.
"No I just thought you'd be too busy to be at the mall." By this time Laila and Grace had caught up with me. They were gawking at us from the doorway. And soon enough, a group of about 20 teenage girls had joined them. Before they could chase Luke he pulled me into a hallway behind the store.
"How'd you know this was here?" I said gesturing to the cement hallway.
"How do you think I go from store to store?"
"I dunno I never thought about it before I guess." We walked down the hallway until we reached a white door with "XXI" printed in the center of it.
