"Madi! Time for dinner." my dad called from the kitchen. When I arrived in the kitchen I was greeted with a smiling dad with a "Kiss the Cook" apron on. "What's for dinner? Pasta? again.." we've had pasta for the past week, but hey I'm not complaining. I love it! I was interrupted from my thoughts as my phone started playing "Ain't it Fun" by Paramore. Laila was calling me to tell me about what happened today at school with Nash. I swear she's in love with this boy, but he's taking too long to figure out his feelings for her... "Hey Laila!"

"OhmygoshMadiyouwon'tbelievewhatNashdidtodayitwassofunnyand..."

"Whoa slow down Laila! I bet it was hilarious but I can't talk right now.." looking at the expression on my dad's face he wasn't pleased with the recent turn of events. "But I'll call you back after I go to the beach! Bye!" I sat down and grabbed a plate of noodles. As I started eating I noticed my dad looking at me strangely. "What? Why do you look so worried?"

"Madi you know I don't like it when you go down to the beach alone at this time of day.." But before he could finish I let out a groan that didn't really sound like it came from a human and said "Dad, we have this conversation every time I go out to the beach, and not one of those times has anything bad happened to me. Sure I run into the occasional person or two but it's such a small town that I know them or they know me or you." And with that the conversation was over.

**Later at the beach**

The water seemed to be clearer tonight and the sky was setting as i walked into the water. It was the perfect night to be at the beach. I had started looking around to see if anyone was around, and I saw one person but other than them the beach was deserted. I guess it was because of the party at the end of the board walk. I could see the lights and hear the music from here. It sounded fun, but I would rather be at the beach alone to sort out my thoughts and things.

I think that the mysterious person was on a walk because they kept coming closer and closer. As they got within 20 feet I could tell it was a boy that looked around my age, 17. He had dirty blonde hair and seemed much taller than me. When he got to me he slowly came to a stop and my heart stopped. I thought "This is it, the one night that my dad's going to be right about these beach trips.." Something about this boy seemed familiar.

"Hey! You like to come out here alone too?" It took me a second to realize he was talking to me. It's not like there was anyone else there. "Yeah, I like to come out here when I can and this is usually the time I can. You know, with school and everything."

"Yeah kinda... I'm sorta home schooled." He said before kicking a pile of sand. "I travel a lot."
