SKYWAY, CHAPTER FIVE: “HOME”
-‘Pull this on so one will recognise you. You can tweet you’re home when you actually are home, alright?’ I nod and pull on the beanie Jake hands me. –‘You good to go? Do I need to sign something? Like papers, forms?’ –‘Don’t think so. Let’s leave.’ I run outside. Freedom. I get in the car, quick, and Jake sits down next to me. –‘Harry, we have to drop Emma off at her home, could you drive us there?’ asks Jake politely. Harry nods. –‘It’s good to see again, Miss,’ he says smiling. –‘It’s great to see you too, Harry, I missed you.’ Harry laughs his brilliant laugh and continues the drive to my house. I’m going home. After four months, finally free, finally going home. –‘You are asked to perform two songs at X-Factor this Saturday, a duet and one song you can pick randomly. It has to be a lovesong though.’ –‘Alright. I’ll think of something.’ –‘You’ll have to think fast, tomorrow you have to go to the studio for rehearsals as it Thursday. And your partner gets picked.’ –‘Who else are performing?’ –‘I don’t know, I guess you’ll see tomorrow. You have to go there yourself, the lads are in the studio with me, I expect you to come over to the studio when you’ve finished, alright?’ –‘Alright, got it. How is the album coming along?’ –‘It’s alright, we’ve missed you loads though. I mean you’re the one who wrote every song on the first album, so you are quite important. We’ve got one track so far, but millions of ideas. I’ll show you tomorrow; we’re here. Don’t forget to tweet the fans, and interact with them, alright? See you tomorrow, sleep well Emma!’ –‘Yeah, err, bye.’ I open the door and make myself a cup of tea. While the water’s boiling, I take a look around my eyes. It’s all the same, the photos, the bedsheets which I immediately changed after I saw they were the same, it was all very neat and tidy. I sit down with my cup of tea and open up twitter. “Home sweet home…” I turn on the TV and skip to the music channel. I open up twitter and see ‘#WelcomeHomeEmeli’ is trending. I smile and follow some people before locking my phone and putting it away so I can focus on the music playing.
I enter the X-Factor building and they lead me into this room where I’m having an interview first. –‘Hello Emeli!’ –‘Hey Olly!’ –‘So, finally back home! Are you excited about performing here tonight?’ –‘Yes, very excited!’ My performance wasn´t actually tonight, but they wouldn´t have enough time Saturday if they also had to interview everyone, so the interviews are today. –‘So, we’ve got quite a few Twitter questions for you… starting with this one, from Kimberley. How does it feel to be back home?’ –‘It’s amazing to know you’re strong enough to go home, it’s a feeling a can’t describe. It makes you feel strong, confident… It’s great to be home, I missed home.’ –‘Another question… oh, a naughty one! You don’t have to answer this question, I understand if you won’t. Don’t know why they picked this question. Did your sex life become better when you became famous?’ –‘YES! It most definitely did. I always thought it was just men getting laid all the time, but no, trust me when I say girl get some fun too.’ –‘Just out of curiosity, how many people have you slept with?’ –‘Err… about… 14 blokes, I think…’ –‘And how many girls?’ –‘Hang on, I’m still counting, I stopped counting a year ago… I lost counting after the sixty-seven, it’s more than that. I feel like a whore saying that…’ –‘Was it serious?’ –‘Nah, just getting drunk and going home, one-night things. Even if they give me their phone number I don’t call them, it would be awkward.’ Olly laughs. –‘You’re not a whore, don’t worry about that, we all need some fun every now and then, don’t we?’ He winks and asks the next question. –‘My favourite foreign accent? I think Spanish, it sounds hot. You know, I actually met this-’ –‘I think you mean slept with,’ says Olly jokingly. –‘Met, slept with.. it’s the same thing!’ Olly laughs and I continue my story as his laughter calms down. -‘Anyways, her accent was so hot, we met at this club and we danced a bit, and she talked so much but I didn’t even care I loved hearing her accent. And that was my story.’ Olly laughs. –‘That was the clue? She talked a lot but you didn’t care?’ I nod smiling and Olly laughs again. –‘What’s your favourite accent in the UK?’ –‘Oooh, that’s a tough one. I really and Essex accent, it’s such a strong accent, and again, it’s hot… So yeah, I think an Essex accent is my favourite.’ The rest of the interview goes smoothly, and soon I’m ushered into another room with other celebrities who are performing.
