SKYWAY, CHAPTER EIGHT: “IT”S LOVE”

EMELI’S POINT OF VIEW

I rolled over to my side and kissed Jessie good morning. –‘Hey babe,’ I whispered softly and kissed her forehead. She squeezed her eyes shut before opening them slowly and breathing out the air in her lungs. –‘I thought it was a dream.’ I chuckle softly and place my hand on her waist, softly rubbing it up and down. –‘Last night was a good night,’ she comments smirking. –‘It was.’ She ruffles my hair with her right hand before sliding it across my cheek and neck down to my waist. We get out of bed and have breakfast before going upstairs again. –‘Do you want to borrow some clothes? I wouldn’t like the idea of you leaving in the same clothes…’ –‘Yes please,’ Jessie whisper timidly and we make out way over to my closet. –‘My clothes will be a bit big for you, but if you pick a jumper and some leggings no one will notice they’re my clothes.’

-‘Bye babe!’ I kiss her extremely soft cheek one last time before she leaves. I sigh happily and run a hand through my messy hair. I can’t tell if it’s sex hair or bed hair, but I don’t care to be honest. –‘Oooh, had a good night Ems?’ asks Phil, who enters the hallway. The four of us share an apartment as we’re barely at home, we spend most of our time touring. –‘Hell yeah mate!’ I say, high fiving him. -‘Since when are you becoming such a badass? Breaking all Jake’s rules?’ –‘What are you talking about?’ –‘Well, Jake told us the rules of being famous, remember? Rule #1: No dating, Rule #2: No partying, Rule #3: No drugs or alcohol, Rule #4: No sexual intercourse with other celebrities and rule #5: No sex with fans. You’ve broken almost every rule!’ Phil says. –‘I think I’m in trouble…’ –‘Yes you are, young lady…’ –‘Jake, what are you doing in our house?’ –‘OUR HOUSE! IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR STREET, OUR HOUSE!’ yells Phil, quoting that at this moment very annoying song. –‘SHUT UP PHIL!’ shout me and Jake at the same time.

-‘So, what are you going to do? You definitely broke Rule One, I don’t even wanna know if you broke Rule Four, your sexlife is not my interest, but what are you going to do?’ says Jake as we sit down at the table. –‘I’m continuing dating. I already broke once and to be honest, I don’t give a flying fuck-’ –‘LANGUAGE EMELI!’ ‘-about those rules. It’s my life, my decisions. I won’t let it be controlled by you or management.’ –‘I totally understand Emeli, but Mr Griffith doesn’t.’ –‘Probably because he’s an old, ugly-’ –‘Don’t even finish that sentence! Without him you wouldn’t have you career; you should be thankful.’ –‘I am thankful, but that doesn’t mean he’s an old-’ –‘Emeli!’ –‘Sorry.’ –‘Oh Emeli, what are we going to do with you?’ –‘Look Jake, I know Look Jake, I know we don’t always agree but I feel like you don’t really understand me.  Have you ever tried getting to know me?’ –‘I haven’t.’ –‘You can’t understand me when you don’t know my story.’ –‘Well tell me then!’ I sigh.

-‘I was born in 1992 in Manchester. Two months after my birth, my parents, my sister and I moved to Belfast where we lived two years. My dad had to travel around for his work a lot, so we moved a lot. After those two years in Belfast we’ve lived five years in California and I started going to school there. I got bullied a lot, somehow I was always easy to pick on, I didn’t have much confidence and I was really shy. So when I was eight, we moved to Sydney. I was nine, we moved to Glasgow and I noticed My sister started cutting and three months later she was dead. She committed suicide. I was the one who found her body, floating in the water. My dad was an amazing person, he was very strong and after her death, he was the on I could rely on. When we moved to Dublin because the house haunted memories of my sister and in Dublin, everything got worse. My mom and dad started fighting, a lot.  I went to a new school and of course, I got bullied there too. I had no friends, no sister, and no parents who could help me. I was alone and depressed. My dad eventually committed suicide when I was fourteen by jumping off our roof and mom and I moved to another neighbourhood, where I first met Phil, and he introduced me to the rest. Three months ago my mom died, and now I don’t have family anymore.’  Jake swallowed and wrapped an arm around me. –‘I’m here for you.’  Jake doesn’t know how much those words mean to me, but they mean the world to me. –‘I don’t want you to feel sorry for me, but I want you to know why I act the way I act.’ Jake smiles and squeezed me tight. –‘I understand Emma, honestly.’
