CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE: “IN LOVE WITH AN ANGEL”
-‘What are we going to do when we grow old?’ I ask Jessica, as I push her swing in some park. –‘I still would really want kids, but that’s nearly impossible with a career like ours.’ I nod slowly, taking in every word she says. –‘It is possible though,’ I say thoughtfully, and she turns her head. –‘But… no, it’s not! Then she would be touring with only one of us.’ –‘She could be touring with both of us.’ Jessica frowns and tilts her head slightly to the left. –‘What do you mean?’ –‘What I mean is…’ I take a deep breath, ‘I could quit Skyway and start playing guitar for you fulltime.’ –‘You-you’d do that?’ –‘Of course. It will be good for both us, instead of being away from each other constantly.’ Jessica grins widely and jumps up from the swing. She runs over to me and knocks me to the floor, attacking me with kisses. –‘I love you so much, it hurts sometimes,’ she giggles as she straddles my waist.
-‘And to spend more time with family, I have decided to quit the band,’ I tell Mr Gilbert, as I’m sitting in his office, facing him. –‘I understand, Mrs, I do. But are you sure it’s what you really want?’ he frowns. –‘Yes. I want nothing more than start a family with Jessica, I feeling I think you understand, as you’re married too.’ –‘As I said, I understand. Well, if you’re sure. I will miss working with you.’ –‘Me too. I already told the lads, and they are okay with it too as they both got their personal lives too, now.’ Mr Gilbert smiles. –‘You really are talented, Emeli.’ –‘I loved working with you.’ –‘The feeling’s mutual… I have an idea. What about a press conference this Saturday, with the lads and Jessie, which will also be broadcast on the telly to let everyone know?’ –‘That sounds great.’
-‘After loads of talking and loads of tears, Phil, Jim and I have decided to stop the band and start focusing on our personal lives. We are not stopping because we didn’t like it anymore; we couldn’t have asked for a better job, but when you get older, you’ll understand how important it is to settle down and start a family. We started this band as friends, and we’re leaving this band as best mates. Thank you for giving us an incredible journey we will never forget. You all are amazing.’ I’m sitting between Phil and Jim, and underneath the table, I entwine our fingers before raising both my hands and grinning madly. It did hurt, leaving the band, but what would hurt even more is losing Jessica.
-‘Babe?’ Jessica asks me, just as I’m about to fall asleep. –‘Yes?’ –‘Would you consider adopting?’ –‘To be honest,’ I reply, sitting up, ‘that would be my solution, yes. I think it’s good to give a kid a home when they don’t have one.’ –‘Hmm, yeah, I guess you’re right. Do you think we should like, adopt from an orphanage or like a baby?’ –‘We’ll think about that later,’ I say and let out a groan as I fall backwards onto the matrass. –‘Goodnight sweetie.’ –‘Night hun.’
I awake the next morning with a certain someone wrapped around me, looking gorgeous (as always.) I place a kiss on her soft, rosy cheek, and carefully unwrap her from me, giving her my pillow to cuddle. After I have done that, I make my way into the kitchen and open the laptop, deciding to go onto twitter for a bit. I haven’t really been much on twitter since the accident. I click on my mentions.
‘I can’t believe Emeli is with that Jessie J after what she has done to her! Jessie doesn’t deserve Emeli!’
‘I read Emeli got her memory back, but how is she still with Jessie then? I can’t believe it!’
‘Guys, you have to understand Emeli loves her, and when you love someone as much as she loves her, you can’t help but try again.’
‘Emeli must really love her for giving her a second chance.’
