SKYWAY, CHAPTER SEVEN: “CHEESEBALLS”
JESSIE’S POINT OF VIEW
I make my way to my parents’, we’re having a family barbecue this evening and my mom asked me to come too, obviously. She told me to stay the night, so I packed my bags which are in the boot and weird thing is, my mom told me to come alone. Usually she’s asking me to bring friends as she loves meeting them, but this time not. I think because it’s a family dinner, and you know, family. I park ym car, grab my bags, and make my way to the front door. I ring the bell and wait for my mom to open it. Surprisingly, I don’t hear other sounds, it’s quiet. Very quiet for a family barbecue. –‘Jessica!’ says my mom smiling and she embraces me in a tight hug. –‘Mom!’ I hug her back and we make our way inside. –‘Bring you bags upstairs, otherwise they keep hanging out here in the hallway all night.’ –‘Yes mom, I’ll be right back.’ I walk upstairs, taking my time to look at the pictures hanging on the wall next to the stairs. I smile at the memories and finally make it upstairs. I open the second door on my left and walk into my old bedroom. I sit down on my bed and place my bags next to me. I sigh and let myself fall backwards onto my bed. I stare at the ceiling and notice how dark it is in my room. Groaning, I stand up and walk to the light switch, and when I turn back around, I suddenly notice a beautiful dress laying spread out on my bed. There’s a note laying above it. I dive onto my bed, grabbing the note in the jump.
Pull this on and be ready by half past eight,
I’m sure you’ll look great,
And I hope you’re excited for our date…
Emeli.
Date? EMELI IS TAKING ME ON A DATE? I squeal happily and my mom opens the door. –‘What are you waiting for? Pull it on!’ she says eagerly. I laugh and walk into the bathroom to change. I walk out of the bathroom and smile brightly. –‘She’s so cheesy, I love it. No one has ever done this for me!’ My mom laughs. –‘I love helping you to get ready for your date with Emeli!’ –‘How do you know we’re going on a date?’ –‘Darling, I’m your mom, I know everything!’ she winks at me and I laugh. –‘Sit down in that chair and let me do your hair… well, forget that, I’ll do your make up.’ I laugh and lean back in the chair and let my mom do her thing.
Half past eight at the dot the doorbell rings. –‘Go get it,’ says my mom and she pushes me towards the door. I take a deep breath and open the door. Emeli is standing on font of the door, grinning widely and handing me a bunch of roses. Not the everyday-roses, but they are rainbow coloured, I didn’t know that was possible! –‘Thank you so much Emeli! Who knew you were such a cheesy person?’ –‘Well, you know now…’ she smiles and takes my hand. –‘Are you ready to go, beautiful?’ –‘Wait, just let me-’ Before I can finish my sentence, my mom takes the flowers. –‘Go, darling!’ she winks at me and I turn back around. –‘Let’s go!’
We get in what I assume is Emeli’s car, I know she’s got a great taste in cars in this is definitely what I would expect of that. She’s got a Rolls Royce. An actual Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. I only know the name because I drove in it at The Olympics, what an amazing car! I love it, even though I don’t really know much stuff about cars. –‘So, where are we going?’ I ask curiously. –‘It’s a surprise, but I’m sure you’ll love it!’
We went bowling and yes, I did love it. I love bowling, it’s a very relaxing sport. It was really fun bowling but Emeli, especially because we both have are addicted to Instagram, so we took quite some weird photos and videos and posted them. I knew the Heartbeats loved us hanging out, Emeli’s fans weren’t that crazy about it but she didn’t seem to be bothered by it at all. After a great match which was won by me, yay, our night wasn’t over yet. She took me to a great restaurant, it was excellent food. I took duck and Emma took salmon, it was both delicious. Yes, we actually tasted some of the other one’s dish, very romantic.
I thought we were on our way back home, when Emeli pulled up outside a park. She giggled like a school kid when I pointed out the park was closed. We climbed over the fence, yes, we did something illegal, we’re that badass. Emeli grabbed my hand and entwined our fingers. I thought we were walking aimlessly around when Emeli suddenly stopped. –‘Can you see that branch?’ she said, pointing at a pretty damn high branch of a tree, ‘That’s where we’re going to sit.’ She climbed into the tree first, and she helped my climb into it too. She placed me on her lap and we stared straight ahead, you had a beautiful view of the lake here.
-‘I feel like we’re in one of those hopeless romantic films,’ I say, sighing happily. –‘That was what I’m going for. Hopeless romantic. You know, I’m really not that romantic, the lads taught me everything there was to know about dating when you’re famous…’ –‘You haven’t been dating for two years?’ She nods and kisses my shoulder. –‘But good things comes for those who wait,’ she whispers in my ear, making me chuckle. Not only at the shiver running down my spine, also at her cheesiness. –‘You are so cheesy.’ –‘But you gotta admit, you like it, don’t you?’ I nod and rest my head against her shoulder making me look op at the sky. –‘Do I have to make another cheesy comment about how the starts shine for you? Or how I’m promise to bring you back a star? I guess not, since you’ve already heard that line at least ten million times.’ –‘No, actually, no one has ever said that to me. No one has ever done this for me.’ –‘Well, it’s time for you to hear it, I think… Jessica, look at the stars. Look how bright they shine. Do you want to know why they shine so bright?’ –‘Yes…’ I whisper hoarsely. –‘It’s because of you. They shine out for you,’ she whispers in my ear. I can’t help but let out a giggle. -‘Jessica, are you laughing at me?’ she asks. –‘Yes, I am, your cheesiness is making me laugh.’ She holds me tight as she jumps the three metres out of the tree. –‘You lose a point for that,’ she says, grabbing my waist and pulling me into her. My heart skips a beat as our lips come dangerously close. She starts leaning in and I do too. Just as I think our lips are about to collide, I feel her pull away. I open my eyes to see her smirking at me. –‘Kiss me,’ I demand and bite my bottom lip. She smirks. –‘What if I don’t?’ I place my hands on her shoulder and pull her towards me, quite aggressively, and whisper in her ear: -‘Oh, you don’t wanna know the consequences…’ I bite her earlobe and sprint away, into the black night. I hear her footsteps chasing me. Two arms wrap around my waist and pull me into a body. –‘I got you. What’s my reward?’ Emeli asks. I turn around in her arms and look straight into her eyes. –‘Well, that depends on something…’ –‘Yeah?’ she asks, still wearing that sexy smirk on her face. –‘Straight to the bedroom or do you want a drink first?’
