When they arrived on campus, Donna wished her daughter good luck at school, and they departed. Even though Gen had high spirits, there was still that ball of yarn in the pit of her stomach and she felt that it would unravel at any moment.

Frank greeted her in first hour with a familiar wave of his hand. "Hey."

Calm down, nothing has changed. Nothing can get hurt. "Hi."

"Um, you okay?" he asked, his worrisome eyes inspecting Gen under his brow.

Oh, no. He knows. Everything is ruined. "What? What makes you think that – "

"Woah, Gen, hey. Calm down. Is everything okay?" Frank placed his hands on her shoulders. She was shaking, bouncing her knee up and down, her breathing rapid. Sweat began to accumulate along her hairline above her forehead.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," she said, swiping his hands off her.

"Are you sure?"

Frank sighed, "No."

Gen muttered to herself and looked back up. "I forgot to pick mine up this morning."

"The meatloaf can't be that bad, Gen –"

"Trust me. It. Is." She motioned towards a table near them and he turned around to watch. A girl cut a piece off with her fork and put it in her mouth, only to wrinkle her nose and spit it back out with her napkin.

"Riiight..." Frank said, turning back around. "So what are we gonna eat?"

He looked at Genevieve carefully as she thought. Meatloaf or starve. Meatloaf or starve. Oh, wait.

"Hey! There's a McDonald's like two or three blocks away," she suggested.

"But we aren't allowed to go off campus," Frank countered.

Gen shrugged mischievously and whispered, "And you think I give a damn because...?"
