|Chapter 19|
It was about two weeks later and I've been ignoring Brandon the whole time. Cameron was over and I was lecturing him about the things he was saying around Alexia.
"She walked in and said 'sup bitch'. That was not me." I said and he laughed.
"I said that when I answered your phone call remember?" I rolled my eyes.
"Yes. It was on speaker phone. You idiot," I shook my head. "Before you started talking shit she loved school. Now she says "daddy didn't like it so why should I go?" You are supposed to say school's great honey." He shook his head.
"She asked and I told her the truth." He shrugged.
"Sometimes, you have to just play along." He stared over at me and I stared right back.
"Oh, um.. I made a small.. investment." He smiled nervously.
"On what?" I said and he shrugged.
"It's not a big deal.." He looked away, running his hand through his hair.
"Then what is it?" He smiled and turned back to me.
"Uh..." He laughed.
"If it's not a big deal then say it." He rolled his eyes.
"A bike." I burst out laughing.
"Like a bicycle?" He shook his head. "A motorcycle? You're going to kill yourself."
"Well, I like to actually take chances in life." He was hinting at me.
"Shut up. I just don't feel like dying anytime soon." I crossed my arms looking away.
"Ride with me?" I scoffed and shook my head. "Why not? It's getting colder. Might as well do it now." I shook my head.
"No." He sighed and Alexia cane running out. She dropped a bunch of Barbies on his lap
"Do you want to be Barbie again?" He laughed.
"I was never Barbie." She nodded.
"Last time you were." He shook his head and looked up at me.
"You were playing Barbie?" He nodded.
"If I'm being honest, yes. I was practically forced."
"I'm sure." I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever. Are you going to ride with me?" I shook my head.
"No." He made a face and turned to Alexia.
"How old are you now?" He asked.
"I'm almost four!" She said excitedly, holding up four fingers.
"Really? You're so big, little girl. Sure you came out of her?" I nodded.
"Oh, I remember the horrible pain." He looked down at her.
"What?" She said and he shook his head.
"You're so sassy. I don't think so." I stood up and walked to the bookshelf. I pulled it out and sat next to him. I opened it. I pulled out the first picture. It was an ultrasound picture. I showed it to him.
"This is my placenta and there is the fetus," He shook his head with a disgusted face. "Your fault." I pushed my shoulder into his. I put it back and flipped to the next page. Melissa thought we should take a picture each week to show the progress. Glad she did, it was a cute idea.
"After month five I looked terrible so we'll skip that." I said and continuing to flip through. I quickly went through the next few pages.
"No, wait! I want to see," He laughed turning them back. I sighed looking away as he looked through. "You don't even look bad."
"I felt like it." I looked back and I covered my face. It was the picture of me in the hospital bed holding her. I looked a hot mess. He removed my hand and continued looking through. I basically kept a whole scrapbook up until she was two. I didn't have time anymore.
"That's a great picture." He laughed. I was making this horrible looking face.
"Shut up. I was in pain and my dad was taking pictures at all the wrong times." Alexia came over, shoving the book so she could sit between us.
"Is that me?" I nodded. I remember when I went into labor. The grocery store and I called Mike to come get me. I laughed, remembering the faces of the people around me, continuing to tell me "just breathe".
"What's funny?" He asked.
"I went into labor at the grocery store." He looked at me in disbelief before laughing.
"Alexia was born at the grocery store?" I shook my head.
"No! The evidence is right here. I even have it on video. Not showing you that." He leaned back.
"I want to get the full experience though," I shook my head. Should've been there. I decided not to say that because we've been doing good so far on the not arguing. "So, did it hurt?" I hit his shoulder.
"No, it felt absolutely wonderful." I rolled my eyes.
"Who held your hand?" He asked in a shaky voice.
"Myles. The other two were "too disgusted" and didn't want to come in. After I was finished they did though." He just nodded, looking down. The next picture was of Alexia after she dumped a bowl of spaghetti on her head.
(Actually have a picture of myself doing this..)
She cried even though she did it to herself. The same thing happened on her first birthday with cake. She stuck her face into it. I continued flipping through, briefly discussing what happened in each picture.
"Dad, can I come over?" He shook his head, staring at the wall. "Why not?" She pulled on his hand.
"You have school tomorrow." She sighed.
"You are crazy, silly goose. I don't want to go." He shrugged.
"Ask mom." She turned to me with hopeful eyes and I shook my head.
"Ask dad. You know, you could actually take her to school so I can get an extra hour of sleep." He shook his head.
"I can't get her ready." I made a face and nodded.
"You can, you just want your usual hour of sleep. I never get that. Give me a chance." If I get her ready, will you drop her off?" I tried to persuade.
"I guess so." He smiled.
(Question: Where are you all from? I like never ask questions. If you're from Ohio can I get a hell yeah?! Probably not, but that's okay..)
