It was surprising that zoey wanted to know if I had a girl friend. I didn’t know what it meant but I had good feeling about it.
“Does it look like I have one?” I asked with an eyebrow raised.
“Maybe you do. You’re unpredictable, I can’t really tell. So do you?” She said with calm voice staring at the still water.
I had a funny feeling about it but I didn’t want to make it awkward.
“Not presently!”
“So you did before?” She asked looking anxious.
“Maybe..” Giving her a confused answer.
“What sort of an answer is that? Yes or no xey?” She looked me in the eye making it seem she was desperate to know.
“No! I don’t have one and never did.” Giving her a simple answer.”Do you?” I asked to keep the conversation going.
“No! James was the first one in 7th grade and he turned out to be a jerk so he was the last one.”
I was shocked. Firstly, she’s sweet, funny, charming-ly HOT and popular. Why wouldn’t she date anyone?
“Why didn’t you date anyone after that?” I asked to keep the question popping up in my head away.
“Well, here’s the thing. Good looking, sweet guys are either already dating or gay and the other good looking ones are jerks, they just prefer to show themselves off so I just never dated.”
I still couldn’t believe it. I never thought a popular person could stay single, I always thought if one didn’t work out there was always an alternative for them. It felt weird.
“So wha…” i said before getting interrupted by my mom.
“Xey! Open up honey! Are you having diarrhea?” My mom screamed at someone in the toilet.
Go mom, go! Embarrass me please! Zoey started laughing and just got up and walked to mom.
“MOM! What’s wrong with you? I’m fine.” I said looking annoyed.
“Ow honey! Good thing you’re okay. I didn’t find you in the tent, I came to give you some water for the night so you wouldn’t have to come out in the dark. And then herd someone in the toilet, i thought it was you having a bad tummy because of the chicken.”
She looked worried and I couldn’t blame her, it had always been that way. I always thought she felt insecure about me like she didn’t want to lose me after dad passed away.
“Mom! Don’t worry, ill be fine. And its getting dark you should go and sleep.” I said as I kissed her forehead.
“If you need anything, just give me call from your tent.”
“Yeah mom! Good night. Love you.”
