I spend a lot of time reading, and I go to our school library a lot during the school day. Everyday, there is a boy who sits a table away from me. Everyday he asks me one question, "what type of book are you reading?" I answer, and then he goes over to his table.
One day, I noticed he wasn't at his table, and then he wasn't there for a few days. It wasn't like him to miss school, especially not for almost an entire week. Then he finally came back, and I thought I would sit at his table. I waited for him, but when he finally came into the library he sat at my table.
I walked over to that table, and sat down, I said hi, but he just opened his book, and stared at it. "What book are you reading?" I asked, but he sat there, and only looked up at me for a second and put his head back down. I got up, and I heard him quietly tell me not to leave, so I sat back down.
The rest of the time I was at the library, it was completely silent. Not a word was spoken, and the only sound was the occasional turning of the pages in our books. The class was over, so I stood up, put my book on the shelf, picked up my bookbag, and headed towards my next class.
When it was finally time for me to go to study hall I sat down at a desk for her to take attendance, like I always do before going to the library. While I was sitting, I noticed That boy from the library was in my study hall. Instead of going to the library like I always did, I went over to sit with him. I sat down next to him, he was sitting alone, and I am not that popular so I know what it feels like.
"Hi, can I sit here?" I asked him, but he just stared at his feet.
"What is your name?" I asked, desperately trying to fill the silence.
"James." I heard him say quietly.
"My name is Rayen." I said trying to start a conversation.
"I know." He said, just as quietly as before.
"I noticed you go to the library a lot too, do you like to read?"
He simply nodded his head showing that he liked to read. I could tell he wasn't going to talk to me very easily. I sat there wondering what to say to him, but I didn't know anything about him. I tried to think of things we have in common, but nothing but books came to mind.
"What book are you reading right now?" I asked as I pointed to his stack of schoolbooks and folders, there was a book on top.
He shrugged and picked up the book. "It is an action book, It's about this person who has a secret identity, and-" Then the bell rang, and everyone got up in a hurry to get to lunch. I also stood up, and got my bookbag from my seat.
After I got my lunch, I tried to find him, in the cafeteria but he wasn't there. I ate my lunch quickly, then went to the library. I walked into the library, and he was sitting at his table with an apple. I sat down at my usual table, and thought maybe we just aren't meant to be friends. I read in the library until lunch was over. I finished the rest of the day, and then went home.
