I reluctantly went to school the next day. I hoped I wouldn't run into James, but I knew it would eventually happen. I didn't see him at all that morning, so I went to the library during lunch because I thought he wouldn't be there.

When I looked through the glass door entering the library, I saw him sitting inside. I turned around to eat lunch in the cafeteria. After getting to almost the end of the hallway, I felt something grab my shoulder and turn me around. It was James, I tried to keep walking but he just stopped me again.

"Why are you walking away?"

"Why are you talking to me, I thought you didn't want anything to do with me?"

"I don't want you to get hurt."

"Why would I get hurt?"

"Look, you just don't want to be around me ok?"

"No, I want to talk to you, I want to hang out with you."

"Why?"

"Because I-" I paused. I thought about how I told him yesterday that I liked him, but maybe he didn't hear. "I have to go."

"What?" I heard him ask as I started walking away.

I kept walking and didn't look back. When the school day was over, I walked outside and James stopped me. I looked at him and waited to see what else he had to say.

"Why haven't you been talking to me?" He asked.

"We've talked."

"No, you've yelled at me but-"

"I had reason to yell at you, you just told me you didn't want me to talk to you, and gave me no reasons."

"I have reasons, but I think it would be better if you just didn't know."

"Whatever, clearly you don't want a friend so whatever I thought we could be, I'll just have to forget it."

"Yeah, about that. You like me?"

I smiled when he asked that, it was a small smile that escaped, but I'm sure he saw it. I couldn't help it. "Yeah, I think I do."

"Cool, cause to be completely honest, I think I like you too."

"Really? Then why don't you want to talk to me?"

"Really, honestly. I just don't want you to get hurt."

"You keep saying that, but what's going to hurt me?"

"Let's sit down and talk." He said, motioning to a picnic table by the door to the school.

"Ok, what do you want to say?"

"You like to read, right?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, do all books have happy endings?"

"No, but if you're worried about the possibility of an unhappy ending, then-"

"Not the possibility, the definite unhappy ending."

"Well what about the books that do have happy endings?"

"You don't carry around that book anymore, did it have a happy ending?"

"Actually I haven't finished it yet, why?"

"Uh, well, it might not have one, so I was going to use it as an example, but there are a tone of books out there that don't have happy endings."

"Oh, well yeah, but how do you know that it won't be a happy ending?"

"Trust me, I do know that it wouldn't be a happy ending."

"How? The future hasn't been written yet."

"Mine has."

"What?"

"Nothing, just go home, and try to forget about me." He said, as he started to walk away.

"I can't forget about you." I mumbled. "I won't forget about you, we are going to continue to have lunch together and-" He stopped and interrupted me.

"For your best interest, just forget about me." He said as he turned around and kept walking.

I sighed as I watched him walk away. I turned around, and started walking home. When I got home and got to my room, I stared at my desk for almost half an hour before I decided to read more of my secret admirer book.

I took the book downstairs with me, and sat on the couch, cuddled up under a blanket, and turned on the tv. I read through the book and smiled as I saw each post it note inside. I read the book for the rest of the night, until I fell asleep on the couch.
