'He's not moving!'
'But he's alive. Look closely. He gained color. The warmth of his body should return as well.'
'But he's not waking up—'
'You may heal his body but almost every fiber of his soul had long gone leaving the body before. It all now depends on your bond with your Queen. Remember, your power may control time but spirit is a different matter. If your bond is strong, he will surely wake up.'
Hakata kept remembering those words the Joker said to him. He had never lost hope, holding onto the memories he recalled. He faithfully tended his sleeping Queen himself any time he got the chance to. Dutifully, day by day.
And two years had passed. A lot had changed in the kingdoms since then. The Kingdom of Hearts, for example, truly was in a disaster due to the King and Queen's sudden disappearance. But the Ace of Hearts managed to pull it under control and ruled until a new generation of royalties took over.
As for the Kingdom of Diamonds, after a long debate session, the royalties was finally able to force Tsurumaru to give up his crown. New generation was coronated, Urashima Kotetsu as the King, Midare as the Queen, and Yagen as the Jack. The Diamonds continued to live in harmony for years to come.
There was no problem with the Kingdom of Clover. The assault long ago surprisingly was easy to crush. They maintained their order, slowly turning into a powerful kingdom in years.
Basically everything was great. Everything was peaceful. Glorious. Prosperous.
Except for the Spades. The people might look like normal, but deep down they were in grief. They mourned and lamented, for they felt for their King, unable to see the Queen's sweet figure accompanying his every steps.
That day, Hakata walked down the hall in the palace. It was 7 o'clock in the evening, time for the King to go back to his chamber. Back to see his Akita. Though, for a second he hesitated to open the door. It was hard. He was scared to see the sleeping Akita not waking up every single night. That he would eventually let his negative thoughts clouded his mind, haunting his every being for the rest of his life, killing something inside of him every second passed.
However he still had to face it. He was obligated to live through a trial by opening the door. He must see to it until the end.
Habitually, something inside him died a little when he saw Akita's unmoving body on the bed. A usual thing for the past two years. He sat on the edge of the bed, caressing the pinkish cheeks ever so gently.
"Hey, my most precious Queen..."
Hakata called out.
"It has been so long since I last saw your beautiful smiles."
He took Akita's thin hand, holding it close to his own.
"I'm tortured. I don't think I can wait anymore. Is this some kind of punishment for me?"
He leaned down, kissing Akita's hand.
"Should I give up on you even if I don't want to?"
He held his hand tighter, shifting closer and closer to his still Queen.
"Tell me what to do. I'm lost without you."
Slowly, softly and tenderly, he kissed Akita subtly on the lips. His heart longed for this too long, he couldn't help it. Hoping for a miracle was the only thing he could do.
He then suddenly felt air brushing his face, weirdly soothing his chest.
'What was that...?'
"Hakata..."
Hakata's eyes widened hearing that familiar soft voice. He sat straight, slowly looking at Akita on the bed.
Akita's eyes were fluttering open. A small, cute yawn escaped from those red lips as he rubbed his eyes awake. The moment people had waited for years finally came.
The Queen of Spades had finally woken up.
