Chapter 07

Months passed since the ceremony, the new royalties of Spades had grown used to their new roles. Hakata had done well as the new King of Spades so far. During the short time he had been ruling, he had already made new few policies solving all kinds of domestic affairs, especially those in economy sector. He was famous for his consistent advance competence in finance area before, and he certainly used that knowledge to the kingdom's advantage. Under his authority, and only in several months, the Spades' trading activity showed the most improvement. The people prospered, as the advanced trading policy made actual profits for all. Meanwhile, Akita just tried his best and strive to be the best Queen his King could ever have.

As per usual, Akita went out of his way to bring his King little snacks in the afternoon. He walked to his study chamber with a tray in hand, bringing all sorts of cookies and herbal tea. At first it was hard to do just that, the maids insisted that they should be the one carrying the snacks. They said they couldn't possibly let the Queen carrying trays and food. Akita pouted at the recollection; he wanted to do it himself. Since it always brought upon his King's smile.

But that particular day, the smile shown was rather... tired. Akita put down the tray on a table inside the chamber and approached the King.

"What's wrong?"

"That meeting is happening,"Hakata kneaded the space between his brows.  "Moreover it's today."

"I'm aware of the meeting. Didn't we instruct some people to start working on the room for the meeting together?"

"Yes, and I'm not looking forward to it, let alone leading it. Especially when that Gotou is coming."

"But you know every Kings and Queens of the four kingdoms have to attend this meeting. Of course you'd have to see the King of Hearts."

The Kingdom of Spades and the Kingdom of Hearts hadn't had a particularly fine relationship with each other for many generations. It was said that the cause of it was an affair done by royalties from both kingdoms long time ago. There was, in fact, war between the two, and it could definitely happen until now if not for the other two kingdoms' interference.

The silent dispute went on, even in the present generation. And that wasn't all. There was some history between Hakata and the King of Hearts, Gotou. They had known each other before they ascended to the throne. To be awfully blunt, their personality clashed. While Hakata was more of a planner, Gotou seemed to do things according to his own leisure way. Roughly everyone knew they were not in good terms, so all they could do was to pray for a reconciliation in near future.

"I'll be there beside you. You can just focus on me instead of him." Akita said, reassuring the bespectacled man.

"Yeah, I'll do that..."

"And you need to get ready, the guests are arriving today. They might be here any minute now."

"All right, just let me have my little snack peacefully with my wonderful Queen~" Hakata grinned, pulling Akita to his lap.

Akita, completely at his mercy, sighed and smiled. "Make it quick?"

"Sure ~" the King said, leaning in for a soft kiss.

The sound of knocks stopped their tracks.

"My King," Atsushi called out from behind the door.

The King silently groaned.

"Come in. What is it, Atsu?"

Atsushi opened the door to the King's study chamber.

"Your guests are arriving."
