I felt tears brim my eyes.

"W-what?", I asked. Mike scooted closer to me and looked me in the eyes. He was dead serious.

"I want to save you.", he said. I felt my breathing hitch.

How do you save someone who's already gone?

  "Mike..i-i don't thin-".

"Please", he interrupted me. I looked into his pleading eyes and bit my lip.

"Mike", I gulped. I really didn't want to tell him...but I hated lying.

"Please", he begged. I felt a small tear slip down my cheek. "Mike..I can't be saved", I whispered in a shaky voice.

I felt more tears slip down my cheeks. Mike wiped them away with his thumb and looked at me.

"Let me prove you wrong", he said. I lost it. I buried my face into my hands and cried softly.

I didn't want him to try and save me when I know I'll be gone by the end of the month.

I didn't want him to worry about me.

I didn't want anyone to worry for me.

"Shh...it's okay", he cooed and pulled me into a tight hug. I cried into his chest as he soothingly rubbed my back.

"You'll be okay", he whispered, more to himself. I tried to calm myself as I felt his fingers draw shapes on my back.

I wiped my eyes and pulled away from him. He had that look in his eyes again.

I just can't tell what it is.

"Come on", he said, cracking a smile. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at him.

He stood up and held out a hand. I took it and let him pull me up.

"Where are we going?", I asked, confused. Mike smirked at me.

"Let's go have fun", he said. I nodded and grabbed my empty fro-yo cup, then followed Mike.

I threw the trash away as we walked to wherever Mike wanted to go.

I could see the Ferris wheel and some other stands as we walked further into the boardwalk.

"Have you ever seen the sunset on a Ferris wheel?", Mike asked. I shook my head and stared up at it.

"Come on then", he said and grabbed my hand. He led me to the line and bought some tickets.

I looked around as we waited for our turn. Couples were holding hands and beaming at each other, kids were playing and running around.

Families were walking around together and pointing at things. Friends were walking in groups, holding various amounts of food and snacks.

Sometimes I wished my life was like that.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Mike tugged on my hand.

I looked over and noticed the worker motioning for us to get in.

We handed him our tickets and stepped into the rusty, blue cart.

"You're gonna love it", Mike grinned as we slowly began rising. I heard the metal screech a little as we rose higher.

Our cart stopped right on top and just in time to see the sun setting behind the ocean.

I watched in awe as the sun disappeared, leaving bright hues to dance and glimmer over the surface of the crystal ocean.
