xxv. Let's Debut

Daehyun's POV

April 2011

"Excuse me,"

He lifted his head as he turned his attention towards me. A smile formed on his small lips. Although he smiled, he must've felt weird that a stranger wanted to ask him a question as soon as you came out of the bathroom.

"Yes?"

He asked politely and I couldn't help but to smile with him.

"May I ask where is the practice room?"

"Down the hall, to your left"

I thanked him and used the directions he gave me. As I entered, I saw other trainees were practicing their vocal talents.

I looked around for the vocal trainer. I was the newbie of trainees in TS Entertainment. I went for the audition 3 days ago and I could say that I aced it. I was informed that I got accepted yesterday and I was really excited.

I saw a man, propably in his mid-30's teaching a few students on their vocals. I approached the man and told him that I was a newbie and asked what to do.

He instructed me to join the other students and so I did. He taught us on the breathing techniques and how to sing properly at our own range without straining our throat. At the first day, I learned a lot and I immediately realised I was lacking so much.

Then I heard the doors open and someone came in rather hurriedly as I heard his/her footsteps.

"I'm sorry I'm late sir"

"Why?"

"I messed up my schedule sir. I'm really sorry"

It was a male. But I couldn't recognise his voice despite of it being farmiliar.

"How are you going to debut at this rate? Messing up schedules and so on. Stand here"

The vocal trainer said and he stood beside me. I turned to look at him and immediately knew that it was him. He was the one from earlier.

"Sing the song from yesterday"

The trainer said as so he did. As soon as he opened his mouth and started the song, I fell in love. His singing voice was nothing like his talking voice. It went deep and very soulful and I liked that. The song really complimented his raspy R&B voice and never mine as it was high-pitched and loud.

The vocal trainer told him to stop and he did. "You were off key at the last part" At the corner of my eye, I saw him frown and looked dissapointed. I immediately wanted to protest at his comment but then I remembered that he was the trainer.

But at least, he should've complimented him. His voice deserves to be praised and loved. "All of you go and practice this song and I will evaluate you in 20 minutes"

The students splitted up and went into their own places to memorise the lyrics also the melody.

I purposely went to a spot near him. About 2-3 people can fill up the gap between us. I read the lyrics but I wasn't concentrating as much as I need to. I was waiting for him to start singing.

My ears perked up as I heard his voice. He sang the first line and I leaned on the wall. I brought the piece of paper closer to my face to cover the slight grin on my face.

Why do I feel so excited hearing his voice?

His voice went low at a certain note and that made me shiver.
