I wake up groggily. I rub my eyes and squint to look out the window. I frown when I see that it's still night, Why the hell did I even wake up? I ask myself annoyed that I'm never seem to be able to get a full nights sleep. EVER.
The sound of rocks scraping together causes my eyebrows to scrunch up in confusion. I sit up on my elbows and look for the sauce of the sound. My eyes land on the closed off fireplace, before now I had assumed it to be boarded because it's not safe or something but now I have the thought that it may not be something so innocent.
I quickly get out of the bed and stand to the side of it. I watch as the horse head, that I had assumed to be an ornament, slides own the curve of the mantel place. I hold my breath as a hutched figure ducks into the room then straightens out to a height much taller then my own. It walks over to my bed then stops in front of it. It whips its head to the left, as if to try and find me, that's when I can see exactly who's in my room.
"Loveday!" I say in complete shock, her head snaps to me and a smile spreads across her flawless face, "what-how-why?" I stutter in complete and utter shock, how long has the crazy tree lady known where I live? Long enough to make a secret passage into my room apparently. She probably got the animals to help her, just like snow white! Maybe she really is snow white......
"oh, Blake dear-" she says relief hanging on every word, "-I'm so sorry for scaring you earlier" she apologises,
"are we just going to ignore the fact that you just crawled into my room through a secret tunnel?!" I ask, awe stricken. She pisses me off, I don't trust anyone who looks that good past 12 at night.
"you must listen girl" she says, becoming serious all of a sudden, "you're the last hope the valley has-" she states starting to sound desperate, "-maybe where I failed you can succeed" she sighs sitting on my bed, placing a plate of cookies on the bedside table,
"It was you! You were the one who left that stuff in my room!" I say in shock, how long exactly has she known about my existence,
"yes, has anyone ever told you you snore like a man" she giggles, I scowl at her she's been watching me in my sleep? "-moving on" she coughs awkwardly, "-I was the moon princess before you-" she drops the bomb shell casually, "-I tried to bring the two families together but their hate for each other is too strong-" she says sadly, "-to break the curse you not only have to find the peals but rid them of their hatred for each other" she informs,
"well, how can I do that?" I ask, why am I expected to do something so many before me failed to do, why do I have to be the last?! If I fail I will be remembered as the ne who will be known for failing not the others, how frustrating,
"find the pearls first, that one will be the easiest.....probably" she suggests,
"where are they then?" I ask,
"no one knows"
"well, that's just dandy" I roll my eyes, I couldn't even win at a game of hide and seek as a child!
"both of the families think the other have them-" Loveday states, "-the De'noir clan has the peal casket and the Merryweather's have the key" she adds,
"So I'll have to sneak into the De'noir clans belongings and find the box?" I ask
"um-hum" she hums in response,
"well, why didn't you just say so" I say with fake enthusiasm, "do you happen to have a little passage way to their hideout?" I ask, if she only has one to here I swear to god I'm going to lose my shit,
"sadly not-" I let out a sigh, "-meet me at the tree tomorrow morning and I'll take you there" she offers,
"fine" I huff not really having a choose, "but we'll need the key too and I have no idea where that is" I admit, finding a floor in her plan that she has had how ever long to plan out, "-come with me" I say jumping off the bed and dragging her by her arm out the door.
She mumbles in reluctance but still allows me to walk her through the house. I planned to take her to meet the devil chef seeing as he seemed like an expert in this type of thing yesterday, beside they might get along crazy does get along well with crazy, right? But me not being the best at navigation end up bringing her to a large, nearly empty room with paintings leaning up against the walls and a piano in the centre.
Loveday walks towards the piano, almost in some sort of dazed state like it was calling for her or something. She starts to play a song that I've never heard before, flawlessly of cause. I look over her solder and watch as some of the keys play themselves for her. I sit next to her and let my fingers press keys down. I have never played the piano before but some how its like I already knew the right keys for this song.
After I get bored of playing the song I stand up and walk toward a picture of flowers in a vase. Did uncle Benjamin paint all these pictures? I wonder. I watch as a story unfolds on the canvas, Uncle Benjamin and Loveday at the piano playing the same song as we just were. They look so in love, especially Uncle Benjamin he looks hardly like himself. The black bags that plague his eyes are no where to be seen, his posture is straight and proud but what is the biggest difference is his smile, a real smile showing teeth much like the one Loveday parades around. And Loveday looks different too, clean.
They dance round the room, happy to be in each others company. They start to talk about the wedding they're apparently about to have. Loveday then drops the bomb shell that she's a De' noir and Uncle Benjamin starts to throw a hissy fit, saying that she tricked him.
Oh, good old uncy Ben Ben,
"I mist be going" Loveday suddenly says, making her way to the door, "don't forget to meet me, it's a matter of life and death" she reminds, as if I could forget, "try and find that key too" she suggests, then she's gone. Great.
